Job Description:
We are currently seeking a highly skilled and motivated Media Relations Specialist to join our dynamic regional media relations team. This role is pivotal in driving positive earned media results within the key media markets of Louisiana, Alabama, and Mississippi. The ideal candidate will lead proactive media relations efforts, enhancing AT&T's corporate brand and supporting our business units, with a focus on mobility products and services, 5G, broadband, and corporate citizenship.
Key Roles and Responsibilities:
Relationship Building: Establish and nurture relationships with top-tier regional news outlets. Serve as the primary contact for reporters, positioning yourself as the go-to expert for your geographical territory.
Media Coverage: Leverage close media relationships to secure positive media coverage consistently. Demonstrate an expert level of knowledge of the media industry. Prior experience as a spokesperson is essential, and a background in television news is highly desirable.
Content Creation: Craft compelling media pitches and represent the company at local community/media events.
Travel and Engagement: Engage in occasional travel within the Gulf State area to support business needs and maintain in-person relationships with the local news media.
Strategic Communications: Make informed decisions on public relations strategies, including reactive/proactive stories, content creation, and localization of national news. Manage special projects and act as the subject matter expert on public-facing initiatives.
Team Collaboration: Work as part of a field-based regional team, sharing best practices and operating independently to contribute to broader team objectives.
Industry Awareness: Maintain a high-level understanding of industry trends, with a strong capability in crisis communications and the ability to make quick, smart decisions.
Qualification Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in a related field is preferred.
A minimum of 5 years of media relations/communications experience, either in a corporate/agency setting or as a media professional (reporter, anchor, producer).
Outstanding verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to identify and develop creative story angles.
Availability outside regular working hours as needed.
