Description
Nitsch Engineering is looking for a Senior Highway/Transportation Engineer to join our team in one of our three Massachusetts offices in Boston, Lawrence, or Worcester!
Responsibilities
Lead a team of engineers and designers to complete roadway and highway design projects and perform drainage/utility design
Prepare and review complex construction phasing and traffic management plans
Serve as the main point of contact and facilitate meetings with the design team, Client's staff, and other consultants as required
Prepare and review construction documents, including plans, specifications, and estimates for intersections, roadways, and multi-modal transportation facilities
Act as technical lead for the internal design team including design, drawings, specifications, reports, and calculations for a variety of transportation projects
Assist the Project Manager/Technical Manager with staffing projects, coordinating technical design tasks, and delegating tasks to those on the internal project team as appropriate
Determine non-routine regulatory and code issues as they pertain to highway and traffic design and obtain interpretations from code/permitting officials
Mentor and oversee junior staff
Requirements Bachelor of Science in Civil Engineering
Massachusetts Professional Engineer License, or the ability to obtain one within one year if currently licensed in another state
Minimum of 8 years of experience in the preparation of transportation/site documents
Advanced understanding of AutoCAD Civil 3D and specialized design programs
Advanced knowledge of highway/transportation engineering design and construction standards
Understanding of local, state, and federal regulations and codes applicable to highway and traffic design and ability to research non-routine issues
Advanced understanding of transportation/traffic design and permitting requirements
Ability to participate in client or jurisdictional interviews and make presentations, both internally and externally
Understanding of project metrics including scope, budget, multiplier, additional service needs, and programs used to track metrics
Strong technical writing, communication, and multi-tasking skills
