A law firm in Baltimore is seeking a Senior Tax Controversy Associate Attorney with a minimum of 6 years of successful experience in tax controversy matters. The ideal candidate will provide comprehensive legal representation to a diverse range of clients, including individuals, high-net-worth families, corporations, and partnerships, throughout all stages of tax controversies. This role involves advocating for clients before the IRS and state and local taxing authorities, as well as first-chairing federal and state tax litigation and appeals.
Duties:
Provide comprehensive legal representation to clients in tax controversies.
Advocate for clients before the IRS at the administrative level, including audits, appeals, and collections.
Handle state and local tax matters as needed.
First-chair federal and state tax litigation and appeals.
Draft and file all requisite legal documents, such as briefs, motions, and petitions.
Stay updated on current developments in federal and state tax law.
Collaborate with partners, associates, and other professionals within the firm.
Mentor junior associates and contribute to the growth of the Tax practice group.
Requirements:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Barred in the state of the attorney’s primary office location.
Deep understanding of federal and state tax laws, regulations, and administrative procedures.
Exceptional analytical, research, and writing skills.
Superior communication and interpersonal skills.
Prior experience in tax litigation, negotiation, and alternative dispute resolution.
Some criminal tax experience is a plus.
Some transactional tax experience is a plus.
CPA or LLM in Tax, or prior work experience in the IRS, is a significant advantage.
Education and Certifications:
Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school.
Barred in the state of the attorney’s primary office location.
