This leading specialty chemicals business is seeking a highly experienced and dynamic Director of Research & Development (R&D) to lead the R&D team. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in the specialty chemical industry, with a proven track record of driving innovation, managing complex projects, and leading cross-functional teams. This role requires a strategic thinker who can balance technical expertise with business acumen to drive the company’s growth and competitive edge.
Key Responsibilities:
Strategic Leadership:
Develop and implement the R&D strategy aligned with the company’s overall business objectives.
Identify emerging trends, technologies, and market opportunities to drive innovation and product development.
Project Management:
Oversee the planning, execution, and successful completion of R&D projects.
Ensure projects are delivered on time, within budget, and meet the desired technical and commercial specifications.
Team Leadership:
Lead, mentor, and develop a high-performing R&D team.
Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the department.
Innovation and Development:
Drive the development of new products and the improvement of existing products.
Ensure the application of best practices in research methodologies and technologies.
Collaboration and Communication:
Work closely with other departments, including Marketing, Sales, and Production, to ensure alignment on product development goals.
Communicate R&D progress and outcomes to stakeholders, including the executive team and board of directors.
Regulatory and Compliance:
Ensure all R&D activities comply with relevant industry standards, regulations, and safety protocols.
Stay updated on regulatory changes and their impact on the company’s products and processes.
Budget Management:
Develop and manage the R&D budget, ensuring optimal allocation of resources to support strategic objectives.
Monitor expenditures and implement cost-saving measures where applicable.
Qualifications:
PhD or Masters degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, or a related field.
Minimum of 10 years of experience in R&D within the specialty chemical industry.
Proven track record of successful product development and innovation.
Strong leadership and team management skills.
Excellent project management and organizational abilities.
Strategic thinker with strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
