ROLE AND PURPOSE:
Assist Transportation Manager in oversight of drivers and attendants, based on attendance zones, including routing, onboarding, recruiting, and conflict management, and to be a liaison between campus administration, security, and driver/attendant.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certification:
High School Diploma or GED (College Degree preferred)
Valid Class A or B CDL w/ P&S endorsement
Texas School Bus Driver Safety Training Certificate
DOT Physical
Experience: 5 years experience as a certified school bus driver
2 years experience in supervising employees (preferred)
SPECIAL KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS: Ability to articulate transportation related issues
Ability to work effectively and cooperatively with other department staff as well as community stakeholders and individuals from other agencies
Skilled in preparing, presenting, and reviewing verbal and written information and reports
Ability to read a map
Strong Leadership, Organizational, Communication, and Interpersonal Skills
Effective Student Management Skills
Knowledge of Transportation Regulations and Safety Standards
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
I. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Support the supervisory and operational efforts related to transportation of regular and special education students, including school-to-home-to-school, campus to campus, and extracurricular field trips.
Assist in the hiring, training, recruiting, retention, and professional development of all drivers and attendants
Maintain professional communication with customers and other stakeholders by responding promptly and forwarding any concerns to the appropriate Transportation personnel
Resolve personnel issues, make decisions and recommendations to management regarding discipline, promotions, and/or assignments
Lead onboarding process of potential and newly hired employees, including interviewing, and being their "team leader" once hired.
Oversight of student management reporting to the appropriate campus personnel
Requesting and reviewing school bus incident video review and sending those videos to appropriate personnel
Working with Training department to assign necessary training (student management and vehicle use) and communication with drivers and aides
Work with management to supervise summer work crews
Review and evaluate work of assigned drivers and attendants
Respond to after-hours emergency calls as needed
Reinforce driver training with proper, safe, and defensive driving strategies
Correct unsafe or non-compliance aspects with driver or attendant
II. ORGANIZATION RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist dispatch in monitoring and answering phone calls and two-way radio calls, conveying necessary information to drivers, attendants, campuses, administration, and parents.
Notify bus drivers, schools, administration, and public of any changes in bus routes and schedules
Coordinate departmental activities with other District offices and administrators and provide assistance to requesting departments
Foster positive morale by participating in the decision-making process
Be supportive of and implement departmental directives and requests
Communicate and collaborate with campus/department staff to enhance service delivery, program development, and customer satisfaction
Assist payroll with proper documentation and compliance with employee's time records
III. OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Assist Director in preparation of budget
Maintain self-control over emotions and actions in stressful situations
Update the AISD Transportation Handbook as needed
All other duties as assigned by the Director of Transportation
IV. WORKING CONDITIONS:

Mental Demands: Work with frequent interruptions; maintain emotional control under stress, with frequent interruptions.
The AISD Transportation Department operates on the team concept. Each employee will be cross trained to perform the jobs of other staff members.
