1) To re-envision how the Health Department prepares for and responds to health emergencies, with a focus on building a "response-ready" organization, with faster decision-making, transparent public communications, and stronger surveillance and bridges to healthcare systems 2) Address and prevent chronic and diet-related disease, including addressing rising rates of childhood obesity and the impact of diabetes, and transforming our food systems to improve nutrition and enhance access to healthy foods

3) Address the second pandemic of mental illness including: reducing overdose deaths, strengthening our youth mental health systems, and supporting people with serious mental illness

4) Reduce black maternal mortality and make New York a model city for women's health

5) Mobilize against and combat the health impacts of climate change

Program and Job Description:

The Bureau of Public Health Clinics (BPHC) mission is to promote a healthy community by providing New Yorkers with the resources needed to make informed and empowered health decisions; identify and treat tuberculosis and provide immunization and sexual health services regardless of ability to pay or immigration status. The Bureau oversees the medical services and clinical operations of eight Sexual Health Clinics, several COVID Express Testing Clinics, three Tuberculosis Chest Clinics and one Immunization Clinic. To achieve its mission, the BPHC provides direct clinic services to people seeking health care; monitors disease trends; provides education and training to service providers and community groups; conducts research; and develops policies and programs to deliver high quality clinical care which best serve New Yorkers. The Bureau seeks to hire an Administrative Public Health Nurse, NM to serve as an APRN Medical Director.

DUTIES WILL INCLUDE BUT NOT BE LIMITED TO:

o Act as a contraception and medication abortion content expert for the BPHC.

o Provide clinical supervision to the entire medical staff for the provision of contraception services, including LARC.

o Act as direct supervisor specifically for the Admin Public Health Nurses " a specialized cadre of NP who provide leadership for the medication abortion service and LARC.

o Whenever needed, create medically relevant and didactic contraception trainings inclusive of contraception counseling, and give training updates.

o Provide hands-on training on LARC method insertion and removal for clinicians as needed.

o Establish and maintain high quality contraception services.

o Maintaining a viable LARC training curriculum

o Helping to write/adapt contraception protocols as needed

o Carry out contraception Quality Assurance, including chart review and LARC credentialing assessments

o Devise and carry out contraception Quality Improvement plans

o Work closely (and under supervision) with the Gynecologist medical director to ensure the continued roll out of LARC services, further refinement of the overall contraception program and development of any additional reproductive services that the Agency requires

o Provide direct patient care, including diagnosis and treatment for STIs, EtE (Ending the epidemic of HIV/AIDS) services and the provision of the choice of all available methods of contraception

o Provide insight and guidance for the telemedicine contraception service, the telemedicine abortion counseling/intake service and the LARC appointment scheduling process.

Minimum Qualifications

1. A valid New York state license as a Registered Nurse, a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited college and a master's degree in Nursing, Public Health or a related field, plus four years of recent experience in public health or hospital nursing or a related field; at least 18 months of which must have been in an administrative, managerial, executive, consultative or educational capacity, or in supervision of professional public health nursing personnel working in any of the above mentioned areas; or

2. Education and/or experience equivalent to "1" above. However, all candidates must possess a valid New York State license as a Registered Nurse, and a baccalaureate degree in Nursing from an accredited college; and must possess the 18 months of specialized experience as described in "1" above.

Preferred Skills

* Clinical experience especially in medication abortion, contraception (including LARC) and adolescent health. -Knowledge of current contraception standards of practice -Effective communication and interpersonal skills -Computer skills in Microsoft Office -Experience with Electronic Medical Records -Ability to maintain good public relations and to communicate effectively with patients and staff -Ability to have sensitivity and flexibility when working with groups of various backgrounds. -Ability to travel to various clinic locations across NYC Additional Information Must follow all safety, security, Blood-borne pathogen exposure, infection control, and hazardous materials policies and procedures to assure a safe environment for staff and students. This includes using: personal protective wear, good hand hygiene, and adhering to sharps safety procedures.
