Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) is seeking a Director of Programs 2 , located at our Linthicum, MD campus (alternative locations will be considered with travel), to lead the Advanced Technology Business Unit (AT BU) which resides within the NGMS Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD) organization. ECD is the home to Mission Systems' advanced R&D programs. The Advanced Technology BU forms the front end of the ECD technology development pipeline with a charter to deliver cutting-edge technology enabling industry-leading performance from our systems and the creation of revolutionary mission concepts that address our customers most difficult problems. The BU is comprised of multiple operating units across the Linthicum MD, San Diego CA, and Woodland Hills CA campuses that execute the BU's contract R&D programs and a variety of technology functions including university research, external technology scouting, employee entrepreneurship programs, and intellectual property.

The ideal candidate for this position will have a broad background spanning science and technology, engineering, experience leading and successfully capturing Contract Funded R&D (CR&D) programs, the ability to establish productive relationships with customers and internal stakeholders, and the ability to lead high-performing teams. Moreover, the ideal candidate will have excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, the ability to perform long-term strategic planning, the ability to generate a vision and gain advocacy.

What You'll get to Do:

The Advanced Technology BU Director will lead a team of directors, managers, and senior technical staff in managing the AT portfolio of internal R&D investments and contractual R&D programs, as well as driving the overall technology strategy of the BU. This critical role reports to the Sector Vice President for Emerging Capabilities Development (ECD) and Chief Technology Officer (CTO) for the Northrop Grumman Mission Systems (NGMS) Sector. As a member of the ECD Leadership team, the Director will serve as the interface to executive leadership for the AT portfolio that includes technology supporting every division within the NGMS sector. The AT director will be responsible for developing the BU's overarching technology strategy, allocating and managing BU resources, and successfully managing and capturing a variety CR&D programs program across the broad AT technology portfolio. The Director will also engage broadly across the ECD organization and the larger Northrop Grumman Mission Systems sector to understand business and customer needs and build productive collaborations.

Other responsibilities include:

Providing overall team leadership to include fostering a culture of diversity, inclusion, and pioneering innovation.

Creation of new and innovative program concepts and develop business opportunities.

Building productive relationships with key customers across the DoD Science and Technology (S&T) community.

Creation of an annual operating plan for new business awards and sales and ensuring the organization is meeting its planned objectives.

Ensuring programs are meeting cost, schedule and technical performance objectives and participating in the negotiation of contracts and contract changes.

Developing new business opportunities through long term strategic planning, capture planning, and development of business plans.

Establishing milestones and monitoring adherence to plans and schedules, identifying program problems, and obtaining solutions, such as allocation of resources or changing contractual specifications.

Directing the work of employees assigned to the program from technical, manufacturing, supply chain, mission assurance, business management, and other areas of the program.

Basic Qualifications:

Bachelor degree (STEM) with 12 or more years of program management or related experience; OR Master degree (STEM) with 10 or more years of program management or related experience

Experience leading Profit and Loss (P&L) organizations

Demonstrated ability to maintain existing and develop new customer relationships

Exceptional communication, collaboration, and executive presence skills

Demonstrated success in managing projects to cost, performance, and schedule requirements.

Demonstrated success in leading and developing cross functional teams.

Ability to travel up to 25%.

Ability to obtain a TS/SCI/SAP clearance

Preferred Qualifications:

PhD in science or engineering.

Working knowledge of RF and EO/IR sensor systems, PNT systems, C4ISR systems and quantum technology

Track record of leading an innovation and/or CR&D organization

Active TS/SCI/SAP clearances.

Salary Range: $240,100 - $377,300

The above salary range represents a general guideline; however, Northrop Grumman considers a number of factors when determining base salary offers such as the scope and responsibilities of the position and the candidate's experience, education, skills and current market conditions.

Employees may be eligible for a discretionary bonus in addition to base pay. Annual bonuses are designed to reward individual contributions as well as allow employees to share in company results. Employees in Vice President or Director positions may be eligible for Long Term Incentives. In addition, Northrop Grumman provides a variety of benefits including health insurance coverage, life and disability insurance, savings plan, Company paid holidays and paid time off (PTO) for vacation and/or personal business.
