While many nonprofits work to solve one issue, Bonton Farms focuses on place-based interventions to build community capacity for long-term change. Position Description:
An experienced farmer to help plant, maintain and harvest crops at Extension at Bonton Farms. The successful candidate will play a key role in contributing to the farm team and crop production. Bonton Farms is the largest urban farm in the United States with two locations and over 40-acres in production.
Responsibilities:
Attend a daily farm meeting to learn about needs for the day
Prepare rows and plots for planting
Maintain rows according to Bonton Farm standards including watering, weeding and pruning
Harvest at least twice a week including harvesting, bunching and cleaning to be delivered to market
Help maintain the farm by cleaning supplies, putting up tools, etc.
Assist in greeting and leading volunteer groups that come to assist with a high degree of customer service representative of Bonton Farms
Requirements:
Previous experience working on a farm in particular helping with harvesting and planting
Understanding of farm techniques
Accuracy in executing assigned tasks
Familiar with industrys best practices
The ideal candidate will have at least 2 years of experience working on a farm. In addition, the candidate would have an understanding and passion for the mission of Bonton Farms.'
