Veterans Engineering seeking a Systems Administrator to assist in maintaining a platform of servers and supporting infrastructure environments. Specifically, the Systems Administrator (SA) will provide the following technical support:
Operating System Maintenance
Collaborate with team to apply monthly OS patches for Windows (2K16-2K22) and Linux (RHEL 8/9) servers utilizing HCL BigFix Endpoint patch Management.
Evaluate procedures for a timely and effective remediation of vulnerabilities to improve the overall security of networks utilizing tools such as Nessus & HCL BigFix.
Database Operations
Monitor the successful completion of daily SQL automated database jobs, including database backups, index rebuilds, and other scheduled jobs utilizing SQL Server Management Studio (SSMS)
Hardware/software problem resolution
Keep to a strict 5-minute service level agreement for the client’s servers and applications ensuring a 99.99% uptime of the platform utilizing Zenoss Service Dynamics monitoring tool.
Monitor communications systems continuously to include phone calls and VA email during business hours.
Participation in a team on-call rotation.
Routine and contingency services
Perform hardware, operating system, and software installation, reinstallation, and configuration management for routine and contingency purposes (e.g., disaster site recovery operations).
Qualifications
Data center operations
Ability to work in a data center environment and lift/move equipment as needed.
Familiar with working on servers, storage, & networking equipment in a production environment.
Comfortable with cabling/troubleshooting Ethernet and Fiber-Chanel connectivity
Virtualization (VMware)
Ability to create baselines to manage the lifecycle of ESXi hosts & VM hardware/tool versioning.
Ability to migrate workloads to and from various vSphere instances as needed.
Familiar with Powerlink to automate routine vSphere tasks & queries.
Able to leverage VMware Aria Operations (formally vRops for performance troubleshooting, automation, & capacity planning along with appliance lifecycle as needed.
Proficient in VM deployment and configuration
Backup / Recovery (Cohesity)
Creation & modification of protection jobs along with restoration of VMs as needed.
Lifecyle management of Cohesity clusters and nodes.
Troubleshooting of any cluster/node specific errors.
Storage (NetApp E-Series)
Ability to create and grow volumes.
Creation and modification of hosts groups
Manage firmware lifecycle upgrades of controllers and disks.
Familiar with the NetApp SANtricity UI
Compute (Dell)
Familiar with Dell Open Manage Enterprise (OME.)
Management of Dell PowerEdge compute firmware lifecycle
Bachelor’s degree in CS, EE, Engineering, or Technology and 5 years’ experience in a professional work environment or 13 years of experience in a professional work environment in lieu of education
