Software/Systems Engineer – Hardware-in-the-Loop (HWIL) Lead

5-D Systems, a KRATOS Company, is seeking a highly motivated candidate who will provide software/systems engineering technical contribution and leadership. This position is full-time and requires the ability to successfully work in a cross functional team environment. The focus of this position is to be the technical lead engineer responsible for multiple hardware-in-the-loop simulation environments using an open architecture approach that emulates several unmanned aircraft platforms. The successful candidate must be able to analyze requirements, create system design documentation, utilize and maintain existing simulation models, troubleshoot the multi-faceted (hardware/software/simulation) testing environments, plan and conduct tests to validate system behavior against requirements, and architect and plan system upgrades to accommodate future planned aircraft capabilities.
This position will interface with internal and external project team members and company personnel.
Duties include, but are not limited to:
Developing and analyzing system/subsystem interface definitions, system schematics, and system design documentation
Troubleshooting real-time simulation environments composed of electrical, software, and simulation elements
Developing test plans and reports
Developing test cases based on requirements documentation
Leading and conducting testing
Developing system architecture for new and existing systems
Developing “road map” plans for incorporating new capabilities into existing test systems
Conducting trade studies and performing design research of basic engineering concepts and explorations to determine optimal requirements and system architecture
Working in adherence to structured and defined development processes
Working in conjunction with Software and Systems Engineering Team to develop software system requirements and test requirements
Reporting project- and task-level status to project management
Assisting in preparation of proposals (including budgetary estimates) and presentation materials
Traveling to customer locations as needed ( Bachelor’s or master’s degree in aerospace, electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering
3 - 5 years of Defense and/or Aerospace industry experience
A U.S. DoD Secret Clearance or higher (or the ability to obtain such a clearance if needed)
Experience analyzing and developing system architectures in conjunction with engineering team to solve multi-disciplinary problems
Hands-on hardware and software integration and test experience (specific skills: basic electrical troubleshooting, C++ software development, SIMULINK debugging)
Self-directed, sharp analytical abilities, excellent communication skills, and capable of working effectively in a dynamic environment, technical leadership capabilities
Experience in aircraft
Experience in unmanned aircraft is preferred, but not required
