About the Role:
Shipcom Wireless IoT is looking for a highly skilledDatabase Administrator (DBA) who will take on a keyrole on our development team. As a DBA, you will keepthe database up and running smoothly 24/7, optimizethe database and the data model. The goal is to providea seamless flow of information throughout theapplication, considering both backend data structureand frontend accessibility for end-users.
Given Shipcom’s progress in the IoT division, we expectyou to grow quickly; as a technical leader on the team,you will drive the design and development of thedatabase which is the core of the product experience.You will be required to see out a project from conceptionto final product, requiring good organizational skills andattention to detail.

What You’ll Be Responsible For:
Perform day to day database system administration, including daily checklists, backup verification, log review, security maintenance, performance tuning (analysis, indexing, updating statistics, etc.)
Create, update, and maintain database objects in coordination with our development team
Create, review, and maintain code in our database systems to optimize, standardize and/or prepare for upgrades
Upgrade, configure and maintain server and database monitoring software to baseline system performance and proactively identify (and remedy) potential issues.
Resource monitoring and capacity planning
Review, test, update, and document detailed disaster recovery/business continuity plans for key production SQL Servers (database mirroring, log shipping, replication, clustering) in a VM/SAN environment
Perform database backup and recovery as required, including periodic testing
Reviews, tests, and recommends and installs upgrades of database software, including patches and major releases
Performs data analysis and other reporting tasks. This involves data investigation and cleansing
Expected Skills/Qualifications:
Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or Engineering. Master’s degree preferred
5+ years of Experience that includes performance and tuning expertise in SQL Server. Demonstrates knowledge of principles, concepts, and theories in own discipline, and has extensive knowledge of principles and concepts in other functions
Administer and troubleshoot SQL Server databases including security patching, SQL tuning, Instance tuning, memory utilization, highly skilled in identifying and resolving complex query bottlenecks
Load balancing, Query optimization, Database & Schema design and Database performance tuning
Experience with optimizing and supporting large multi-terabyte production databases
Exceptional Analytic/Problem-solving/Troubleshooting expertise and attention to detail
Strong skills in PowerShell scripting
MCSE/MCSA certifications preferred but not required
Strong organizational and project management skills, with an ability to multitask across teams, projects, and priorities
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
Ability to function at a high level of effectiveness, flexibility, independence and initiative without daily interaction with management
