The Analytics Engineering team (AE) supports this vision by being dedicated to advancing data integrity, orchestration, enablement across the company. The team owns centralized analytics resources supporting data operations within and outside of technology groups. AE also serves in a consulting capacity for many analytics and AI teams: hosting user groups, design reviews, code reviews, and to make sure we’re raising the bar for analytics at Nordstrom.
The Engineering Manager is responsible for developing the roadmap and strategy for analytics and AI development at Nordstrom. Key functions include managing shared resources, deploying low-code features for speed to insights, data operations, and coaching a skilled team of Engineers and Analysts. The ideal candidate lives the Nordstrom values with a strong focus on challenging and encouraging a technical team to grow their skills and make a difference for the company. Responsibilities:
Drive the roadmap and technical vision for Analytics Engineering to promote analytics everywhere, collaborate with product groups and partner teams to deliver value to our customers
Lead best practices in production code, resource management, cost optimization, orchestration, and documentation
Foster data-informed decision making for the organization and the company at large
Build meaningful products that reduce automation friction to speed up the path to business outcomes
Manage organization of disparate data sets across multiple systems while ensuring data quality
Grow and develop a team of talented and motivated engineers with high expectations around individual ownership and impact
Develop and foster a healthy and collaborative culture that embodies both industry best practices and Nordstrom values
Intake and prioritize work using Agile methodologies
Deeply understand the analytics and data science use cases and proactively spot risks and opportunities; represent the voice of our internal customers and stakeholders
Influence key decisions on architecture and implementation of scalable, reliable, and cost-effective engineering solutions
Being the bar raiser, pushing the limit on how solutions are designed and built, how systems are operated, and how we support our engineers to deliver better experiences for our customers
Partner with Product Management, Developer Platform, Cloud Engineering, Data Engineering teams, and business stakeholders
Requirements:
BA/BS in Computer Science or closely related degree or equivalent practical experience
5+ years of development experience in on-premise and/or cloud platforms
5+ years of hands-on experience writing complex, highly-optimize production-quality code (we work mostly with Teradata, Spark, Hive, BigQuery)
3-5 years of experience hiring, developing, and promoting a team of high-performance engineers and analysts (either as a manager or a team lead)
Working familiarity with cloud platforms - AWS and GCP required - to influence designs and development of scalable analytics and AI projects
Fluency with data management, governance, and orchestration software concepts to empower non-technical, internal stakeholders to drive their own analytics and reporting
Working familiarity with at least one scripting language for production ELT/ETL (we use Python)
Demonstrated ability to manage complex stakeholder relationships with conflicting priorities
Demonstrated ability to manage and prioritize workload and develop a roadmap and team vision
Retail/eCommerce industry experience strongly preferred
Familiarity with tools and processes aligned to Engineering standards
Solid understanding of latest technology and retail industry trends
High degree of initiative, ability to own a vision with limited direction

Pay Range Details
The pay range(s) below are provided in compliance with state specific laws. Pay ranges may be different in other locations.
Washington: $141,000 - $258,000 Annually This position may be eligible for performance-based incentives/bonuses. Benefits include 401k, medical/vision/dental/life/disability insurance options, PTO accruals, Holidays, and more. Eligibility requirements may apply based on location, job level, classification, and length of employment.
