What you'll do

The Assistant, Data & Analytics is an entry-level position that plays a key role in ensuring that OGP is data-driven. The Assistant equips the OGP community with insights from nearly fifteen years of data on open government reforms, including the latest trends and examples of promising policies. The Assistant provides foundational support across the entire OGP data pipeline—from data collection and cleaning to data analysis and visualization.

Duty/Responsibility

Data entry and tagging:

Translate OGP action plans and IRM reports into structured data format

Tag OGP national and local commitments by policy area and sector

Review government submissions to the Open Gov Challenge

Data support:

Query OGP commitment data to identify promising reforms to showcase in stories, speeches, and reports

Update and maintain OGP’s core databases for commitments, co-creation processes, members, and general governance metrics

Provide guidance, training, and follow-up communication to staff to ensure high-quality data collection

Data analysis:

Derive insights from OGP data to support OGP events and reports

Draft data-driven fact sheets, memos, and blogs

Conduct trends analysis for institutional learning and reporting

Web support:

Provide quality control and maintenance of OGP data tools, e.g. the OGP Data Dashboard

Liaise with web developers and designers on data visualizations

Education Requirements

College degree in a relevant field (e.g. political science, public policy, public administration, international relations, international development, data science, etc.) or equivalent experience.

Experience Requirements

Demonstrated interest in research, data analysis, and visualization

Demonstrated interest in issues of good governance, international development, democracy, international relations, or public administration

Demonstrated passion for learning new skills on the job, particularly data-related skills

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

Comfortable with spreadsheets, database management, and basic descriptive statistics

Demonstrated ability to quickly research and learn new topics;

Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and respect for deadlines

Ability to communicate across cultures in the workplace;

Ability to work in a self-directed manner with geographically remote team;

Ability to work in Spanish or French preferred;

Willingness to travel
