General/Position Summary
The Director, Corporate Communications Operations is a role that champions functional and cross-functional operations and program excellence across the Corporate Communications organization. The incumbent is expected to apply deep subject matter expertise in communications and operations management to lead and identify opportunities, shape objectives and drive execution of key functional and applicable corporate objectives. The incumbent will focus on achieving simplification in approaches to how the function operates, drives the broader team to execute with excellence & provide an exceptional level of client service to partners & key stakeholders across Vertex.
This is a Hybrid position that requires three days onsite per week in our Boston office.
Key Duties & Responsibilities
Contribute and advise on broader Communications department strategies and goals, including long-range planning and prioritization
Oversee annual Corporate Communications budget, including planning cycle with internal stakeholders & finance partners to ensure budget is maintained throughout annual calendar year
Manage all US-based external contracts, vendor contracting & outsourced initiatives to resource workflow appropriately across internal function and agency partners
Establish functional metrics, set KPIs to measure performance against priorities and drive a process to leverage data to help team members leverage data to take action & inform decisions
Facilitate content planning to focus functional efforts on key goals, leveraging KPIs to ensure created content has desired impact and increases stakeholder satisfaction
Drive communication within Corporate Communications function and cross-functionally with stakeholders on program planning topics including timelines, status, risks and issues
Proactively identify roadblocks and/or constraints impacting strategic imperatives or project execution and lead the team through scenario planning activities
Lead or support key cross-team and cross-functional projects as they arise with oversight and project management
Partner with governance forums, stakeholders, and team lead(s) to align strategy, goals and milestones with corporate objectives; facilitate reporting of corporate goals to appropriate governance forums
Determine approach and stakeholders for cross-functional decision-making and issue resolution
Propose innovative approaches, define functional process improvements, and advise stakeholders on opportunities to optimize project results
Leverage engagement survey feedback to establish functional team operating norms, team development and training, and annual offsite planning
Manage direct reports responsible for day-day communications activities, developmental goals and mentor junior staff through application of subject matter expertise
Required Education Level
Typically requires a Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Journalism or related field
Required Experience
Typically requires 10 years of experience or the equivalent combination of education and experience
Required Knowledge/Skills
Advanced knowledge of project management principles, options analysis, strategic planning, business case generation, finance and resource management
Leadership experience managing cross-functional teams & initiatives with an ability to influence teams to prioritize activities and allocate resources
Highly effective presentation, written and oral communication skills, and demonstrated strong ability in building cross-functional relationships
Organizational skills, an ability to manage multiple priorities
Strong relationship-building and collaboration skills to effectively interact with internal or external stakeholders at all levels in the organization
General business management knowledge to assess the impact of project decisions on financial and functional objectives
