WHAT YOU'LL DO
You will, in this role, require the ability to operate as a trusted advisor and partner to Industry and Capability Practice areas including a broad international partner group, Practice and Account Marketers and other Centers of Excellence. The Manager will contribute to building, innovating and developing Bain’s events capability around Bain-hosted events and external, third-party conference engagement
You will be a true subject matter expert, the individual will be confident, self-motivated and have experience of operating within a global team. Recognized as a role model, the Manager will support and coach less experienced team members and actively establish strong working relationships with colleagues across all regions.
Event Strategy:
As a senior member of the broader Event CoE leadership:
You will align with the Senior Director, Global Events CoE on vision and development of multi-year event strategy and support implementation
You will partner with Practice Marketers to support annual strategic marketing plans as they relate to events across Industry and Capability Marketing
You will identify opportunities and make recommendations to further enhance our event strategy and offering including implementation of event technology
You will contribute, develop and set the standard for best practice across the Events CoE
You will support vendor management strategy including selection through RFIs and RFPs, contract negotiation and relationship management
You will provide input into event forecast and contribute to annual global marketing planning process
You will assist in defining the set of offerings and development of the ‘playbook’ to support a successful and repeatable event marketing model
People Management and Team Development:
You will manage 2-3 direct reports, supporting their career development through coaching and leadership including holding weekly 1-1 meetings and regular career catch-ups to discuss workload, objectives and provide feedback and support
You will help build the annual Event plan (pipeline) supporting the respective event objectives, aligning with stakeholders (Practice & Account Marketers) and working through practical considerations (resource capacity, etc)
You will develop training processes including best practice manual and playbooks for new team members
You will establish a positive “One Bain” presence across the broader marketing team, providing solution-driven outcomes and identifying opportunities for continual learnings and improvement
You will provide coaching and mentoring to new team members, setting example of best practice
You will anticipate issues (ie. bandwidth, skills, deadlines …) before they escalate
You will facilitate alignment with colleagues across Global Marketing (eg: Paid Media, Corporate Affairs) a
You will be a clear role model for the team on Bain Operating Principles
Event Management:
Working with multiple stakeholders with the ability to confidently guide and steer senior leadership, the Manager will design, create and deliver C-suite, high profile client events including:
You will be accountable for all elements of the event program to create and deliver successful events; including all logistics, vendor management, budgets and on-site execution
You will have the ability to anticipate and solve for potential challenges/issues
You will provide metrics reporting on each event including reconciled budgets and attendee lists
You will make recommendations relating to event format, location, agenda and undertake site visits and vendor research, selection and contract negotiations
You will develop and implement best practice across all events ensuring consistent attendee and stakeholder experience
You will act as first point of contact for all aspects related to an event, displaying sound judgement
You will identify new potential vendors and maintain existing vendor relationships across all event categories to ensure best outcome for Bain events
You will understand and apply relevant vendor and contract checks working with colleagues in legal, procurement and finance
You will ensure consistent Bain branding across events in conjunction with other marketing teams
You will use knowledge and experience of individual events to suggest ways to develop and improve annual programs and event series
Third Party Conferences:
You will be responsible for managing Bain’s engagement in “Top-Tier” (high-value) external conferences
You will research, identify and recommend conference sponsorship opportunities
You will negotiate and contract high-value sponsorship engagements
You will partner with colleagues in Paid Media to support overall Media/Event strategy when working with Media event organizations (eg: FT, Bloomberg, Reuters etc)
You will manage Bain’s participation around external conferences, accountable for all elements of the event sponsorship including conference assets, logistics, budgets and on-site execution if required
You will ensure all sponsorship deliverables are met by the Conference Organization
You will develop knowledge and understanding of Practice priorities, interests, topics and target audience
You will continue to develop “test and learn” approach around conferences and how Bain engages in them
You will research and identify new potential conferences/organizations and maintain existing relationships across all external conference organizations to ensure best outcome for Bain
You will prepare budgetary information and track spend for external conferences
You will provide metrics reporting on conference engagement and recommendations on future involvement
ABOUT YOU
Bachelor’s (BA) degree or equivalent and 6+ years event management experience in B2B conferences and events is required.
A strong subject matter expert with a natural gravitas and ability to advise and guide senior leadership, stakeholders and Event CoE team members
Highly organized with ability to maintain a structured working style in a dynamic and fast-paced environment, meet deadlines and maintain attention to detail
Approachable, collaborative working style with ability to work within a global team
Strong problem solving and analytical abilities
Highly motivated, able to work independently
Proactive, calm and flexible approach
Strong oral and written communication skills across all levels
Knowledge of marketing platforms, preferably Cvent, Marketo, Salesforce
Robust budget management capabilities
Skillful negotiation abilities
Strong proficiency with Microsoft Excel, PowerPoint
Broad understanding of marketing function
Willingness and ability to travel (20-25%) for events and willingness to be onsite in the office 1-2 days a week.
