Library Coordinator II

General Summary:

The Library Coordinator II will charge, renew and discharge library books and materials; aid library users in locating and using materials; monitor the borrowing of materials; verify the proper location of books and materials; and perform related work as required. The basic purpose of this work is to aid in the maintenance, preparation, distribution and lending of library books and other materials.

Examples of Duties:

Responsible for reference, circulation, reserves, and interlibrary loan functions, including but not limited to:

Check out and check in books, chromebooks, reserve materials and all other library materials according to existing campus and library policies and procedures using the catalog or any other library application as needed.

Resolve users' circulation, reserves and reference questions and problems according to established procedures, practices and service policies.

Direct users to appropriate resources within the library and on campus.

Responsible for opening and closing the library, as needed.

Staff the reference and circulation desks as needed.

Report building and patron problems which cannot be resolved within the library to the appropriate campus agencies.

Train, supervise and assign daily work to student workers and/or student work supervisors and prepare work schedules of work study students.

Assume responsibility for the operation and functions of the reference , and circulation desks in the absence of a supervisor.

Prepare book trucks for re-shelving, shelve books and shelf readings and maintenance, including inventories.

Receive and process fee payments received and reconcile s daily cash receipts as needed.

Process phone, mail and online requests for renewal of library materials and other patron account inquiries.

Assist in maintaining good order in the stacks, searching for missing books, sorting books and shifting books in the stacks as needed; makes and corrects stacks signs and labels.

Assist in gathering of building count metrics including weekly, monthly and semester summary reports.

Check out, renew and discharge library materials being borrowed using integrated library system (ILS).

Monitor the borrowing of library materials by determining the eligibility of borrowers and by contacting library patrons for the return of books and materials; sends out notices and records the payment of fines.

Process Boston Library Consortium (BLC) card applications, prepare cards and create visiting BLC patron accounts.

Process all interlibrary loan transactions for the Healey Library to expeditiously provide users with materials borrowed or solicited from other libraries.

Manage any patron service issues in the provision digital library services, including interlibrary loan, electronic reference materials management, etc.

Provide assistance to any users on site or remotely that need assistance using electronic library services and intellectual property.

Provide reference assistance to any campus community members and members of the community at large relying on the materials Healey Library licenses or owns in support of the campus mission and educational programs/degrees.

Determine whether library books and materials are in need of binding or repair; repair materials; bind or prepare books for binding.

Provide instruction in the methods of library research and bibliographic search to students and other users.

Assist with large scale library projects, such as weeding, shifting, and inventory projects.

Process physical item requests and prepare/deliver items for curbside service.

Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

Incumbent must have at least one year of full-time or equivalent part-time experience as a library assistant, preferably in an academic library working with a research community. Library experience can be substituted with equivalent educational background, such as a bachelor's degree. Knowledge of the latest trends and issues in academic libraries preferred. Familiarity with interlibrary loan work, reserves transactions, use of library technology preferred, including Ex Libris Alma and Springshare suite. Supervisor experience preferred. The incumbent will be required to regularly work one weekend day. Working schedule will have to be adjusted as Healey Library hours change due to expanded or reduced library hours reflecting semester, winter, summer, and other changes that are customary in academic institutions.

Knowledge of library reference materials and services.

Knowledge of library filing system, such as alphabetic, classified and chronological.

Knowledge of the types and uses of library equipment.

Ability to understand and apply agency procedures and guidelines governing materials and equipment.

Ability to prepare general reports.

Ability to supervise, including planning and assigning work according to the nature of the job to be accomplished, the capabilities of subordinates and available resources.

Ability to make independent and appropriate decisions in the absence of a supervisor.

Ability to implement library policies and procedures courteously and fairly.

Ability to use all necessary equipment, machinery and computer systems within the library.

Ability to retrieve, shelve or locate materials in book stacks or other locations in the library.

Physical ability to push heavy book trucks up to 65 lbs.; ability to retrieve, shelve or locate materials in book stacks or other locations in the library.

Strong oral and written communication skills.

Strong interpersonal skills, with successful experience working with the public in a service capacity.

Strong commitment to patron and student service.
