De La Salle North Catholic High School provides a faith-based, college-preparatory high school education to underserved students from the Portland area. Our goal is to develop tomorrow’s community leaders by making high-quality education accessible to motivated young people in a learning environment that values cultural, spiritual, and ethnic diversity. Our educational approach provides each student with the opportunity to succeed through small classes, high expectations, and active participation in our Corporate Work Study Program (CWSP) affiliated with the nationally-recognized Cristo Rey Network.

POSITION SUMMARY

As a member of the Leadership Team, the Director of Development reports to the President and will play a key role in the continued success and growth of the school’s unique and transformative mission. The Director of Development is responsible for developing and executing a strategic long-term development plan to advance the school’s institutional goals including annual giving, major gifts, foundation grants, corporate support, and special events, as well as building relationships in the community. The Director of Development works closely with the President, the Board of Trustees, the Ambassador Board, Principal and other administrative leaders to set the strategic direction for the execution of all fundraising and development communications activities.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS

Prospecting and Cultivation: Coordinate and refine the school’s prospect management system to ensure the effective and productive management of major gift prospects. Strategize and work with the President to implement cultivation techniques to inspire prospective supporters to become donors and increase the number of donors to the annual operating fund.

Relationship Building and Stewardship: Build on existing relationships and improve donor retention through a meaningful stewardship strategy. Leverage President and board members in these efforts.

Portfolio Management: Maintain a portfolio of key individual and institutional supporters.

Planning and Analysis: Create an annual development plan with the President to support the vision of the organization and participate in long-term strategic development planning with the Board of Trustees. Track and analyze progress towards achieving revenue and communications goals.

Special Events: Overall responsibility for the planning, execution and follow-up of fundraising and special events.

Ensure the timely processing and acknowledgement of all gifts Lead a “culture of philanthropy” at DLSNC with the Board of Trustees, President, Executive Team and staff/faculty members.

Work collaboratively with the Marketing and Communications Director to design fundraising collateral and ensure integrated communications and consistent strategies.

Represent De La Salle North Catholic in the community at events and conferences as appropriate.

Management

Supervise and manage the Grants & Data Manager and Director of Events.

Develop and manage, with the President and the Director of Finance, the contributed revenue and development expense budgets and forecasts.

Update and/or establish development policies, systems, and procedures, with a special emphasis on professionalism and ethical standards for soliciting, tracking and reporting gifts and for exceeding the expectations of individual, corporate, foundation and government donors.

Manage contractors or vendors as related to development projects (e.g., caterers, venues, etc.)

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS

Minimum of five years of progressive experience in a comprehensive development program.

Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills.

Experience in supervising development personnel.

Proficiency with Raiser’s Edge or other CRM.

Strong computer skills, including demonstrated proficiency with MS Office Suite and the Google Suite.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES

Proven ability of personally cultivating, closing, administering and stewarding significant major gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations.

Proven track record of providing strategic direction, leadership and operational management of advancement activities, resulting in marked improvement in execution and revenue growth.

Proven management experience and administrative skills to organize, direct, motivate and evaluate other professionals, support staff and volunteers.

Willingness to embrace the school’s Lasallian charism, and develop a passion for the school’s unique vision, with a desire to fully engage in the life of the school and community.

Ability and enthusiasm to perform in a fast-paced environment with a broad scope of activities with multiple deadlines.

Strong organizational and time management skills and the corresponding analytical skills needed to establish strategic fundraising goals and report on results.

Ability to exercise leadership skills while engaging in collaborative, team-based work; high capacity to inspire cooperation and work well with teams.

Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion; culturally competent in addressing complex issues.

High level of integrity, initiative, creativity and energy.

Discretion, ability to maintain confidentiality where appropriate.

Ability and willingness to travel on all major forms of public and private conveyance, ability to work weekends and evenings when necessary.

ANNUAL SALARY AND BENEFITS

Salary DOE.
