Phoenix is an exciting and innovative community-based AOD service located in Papakura, South Auckland. Within our addiction service, you will have the opportunity to work with adults aged 18 years and older where we offer holistic support to fit their needs and where they feel most comfortable e.g., whare, papa Kainga, local park.
You'll be joining a close knit and supportive whanau at Phoenix, who are passionate about supporting people with AOD and/or Mental health issues and have seen great success with their community model. Emerge Aotearoa are advocates for maintaining a work life balance, which can be achieved within Phoenix services.
Our Phoenix whanau's model of care is based around dual peer support, clinician approach working with adults. Working within this service, you will be at the forefront of change in the health sector and contribute to the further development of our model of care.
In addition to the above, our Phoenix service works within the principles of abstinence and harm reduction, in a holistic manner, recognizing the multi-faceted problems that co-exist with AOD addiction.
We are looking for a well-rounded Peer Support Specialist to complete our team at Phoenix House in Papakura, on permanent part-time basis (working 24 or 32 Hours per Week)!

You will be supporting people to move forward with their recovery within a supportive, compassionate, relaxed, peer-led service whilst under the guidance of a Senior Peer Support Specialist and your dedicated Service Manager.
You'll bring your own knowledge and experience of mental health and/or AOD challenges to the role. Please tell us about your journey in your cover letter.
Sometimes faced with challenging behavior you'll utilize your calmness to engage and empathize and will be quick to think on your feet about how to deal with situations in a safe and supportive way.
You will also need to be flexible and happy to pick up "hands-on" duties and have the willingness to learn on the job.
You'll be culturally respectful, and non-judgmental as well as have a strong understanding of Māori and Pasifika cultures.
We would love to hear from you if you also bring along the following:
Lived Experience of recovery from alcohol or other drug issues
Current or past use of AOD services
Experience working in Mental Health/Addiction/or relevant social services sector
A current full clean driver's license
DHB-approved Peer Employment Training certificate
Demonstrated understanding of a recovery approach in AOD services
An understanding and genuine interest in working with people in a wide range of situations to achieve quality client outcomes
Competence and experience in effective engagement with community agencies and networks
Knowledge of community resources and support networks
Advanced communication and interpersonal skills
Strong professional boundaries and self-care strategies
Well-developed documentation and computer skills
Demonstrated commitment to the Treaty of Waitangi and culturally safe practice
Ability to maintain a better work life balance as our Phoenix service operates between 8am - 4:30pm, Monday - Friday.
4 Weeks of Annual Leave plus additional paid leave allowances including, 3 wellbeing days, 5-10 days study leave and long service leave (pro-rata)
