Associate Director for Violence Prevention Education

Chester, PA, United States

Widener University has been awarded a three-year grant from the U.S. Department of Justice Office on Violence Against Women (OVW) Grants to Reduce Domestic Violence, Dating Violence, Sexual Assault and Stalking on Campus Program. The purpose of the grant is to establish a comprehensive, coordinated, trauma-informed and culturally relevant program to prevent and respond to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking on campus.

As a result of this prestigious award, Widener University is seeking an Associate Director for Violence Prevention Education. Reporting to the Director of Campus Safety, this role will provide day-to-day management, oversight, and administration of this program (80%). The Associate Director will also be responsible for developing, planning and implementing program requirements, as well as support all grant-related activities.

This position will also oversee alcohol and other drug (AOD) prevention support and education. Additionally, this position provides support to the Title IX Coordinator in implementing a sequenced, ongoing, primary prevention program in compliance with obligations under the VAWA amendments of Clery Act and federal Title IX regulations.

This position is funded by external funds, and is renewable contingent upon the continued receipt of these external funds.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (including, but not limited to) :

Essential duties:

Plan, coordinate and implement all grant activities related to administering the OVW Campus Program grant. (80%)

Work closely with the Project Supervisor and other key stakeholders to develop, facilitate, and maintain the institution's Coordinated Community Response Team (CCRT).

Work collaboratively with the CCRT and other key stakeholders to ensure the development and implementation of statutory and programmatic grant requirements and activities.

Serve as a point of contact to maintain communication between the campus and the Department of Justice, Office on Violence Against Women. Additionally, this role will work with local offices of Domestic Violence Project of Delaware County and Delaware county Victim Assistance.

Act as liaison between these organizations, the university and relative departments like Campus Safety, Title IX, etc.

Ensure that project deliverables are completed on time and according to the statutory and program requirements of the grant program.

Cultivate and sustain collaborative relationships with a wide array of stakeholders (staff, faculty, students, community members, and community partners) in order to accomplish project goals.

Work with key stakeholders to assess the needs of students and the larger campus community, including historically marginalized and underserved communities, to gather information to inform project activities and implementation.

Work with the CCRT to develop, implement, and monitor project-specific strategic plan.

Develop and maintain communication and information-sharing processes to ensure that project partners are informed and have access to key program information and materials.

Collect, organize, maintain and submit detailed documentation and relevant institutional data of award documents and project deliverables and bi-annual performance reports

Develop and implement primary prevention programming

Travel nationally (about 3-4 times per year) and attend in-person training and technical assistance as required by the grant program, including New Grantee Orientation, Training and Technical Institutes, webinars, and calls with OVW Campus Technical Assistance Providers and OVW.

Adhere to all relevant federal and state laws and confidentiality

Oversee alcohol and other drug use (AOD) prevention support and education. (20%)

Developing, implementing, and assessing a theory-based and evidence-informed campus-wide strategy to reduce the consequences associated with the use and misuse of substances

Coordinate with campus and community stakeholders to increase opportunities for substance-free engagements, build social connections, and empower students to choose healthy behaviors

Conduct needs assessments such as surveys, questionnaires, and focus groups on AOD topics

Provide AOD educational programming during high-risk times on campus such as homecoming, Halloween, concerts, 4/20, and Thursday evenings

Develop social norms/social marketing campaign strategies related to AOD issues

Collaborate with the Office of Student Conduct to implement evidence-based interventions for AOD violations on campus

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS (education/training and experience required) :

Required:

Bachelor's degree in public health, education, social work, related field

3+ years experience working in violence prevention or related field

1+ years of related experience including working with multidisciplinary teams, grants, or subject matter work related to domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking;

Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault, and stalking

Demonstrated experience in creating, delivering, and assessing primary prevention

Knowledge of primary prevention and harm reduction models

Understanding of the unique ways that underserved populations experience sexual violence (LGBTQIA, racial minorities, individuals with disabilities, etc.)

Experience in project management and facilitation skills;

Strong interpersonal, communication, presentation skills

Ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups of people

Excellent organizational and analytical skills

Knowledge of relevant laws, policies, and regulations related to violence prevention

Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Presentation skills

Experience in strategic planning for new programs

Preferred:

Master's degree public health, education, social work, related field

5+ years experience working in violence prevention or related field

Strong knowledge of research and best practices as they relate to prevention and/or victim/survivor advocacy for domestic violence, dating violence, sexual assault and stalking specifically in a college setting;

Grant management experience (including grant writing, reporting, and budgeting).

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND/OR UNUSUAL HOURS:

This position will require some evening and weekend work

This position will require occasional travel to the Delaware and Harrisburg campuses

Some travel is required for this position, including up to five required training and technical assistance institutes during the project award period.
