Job Description

The Staff Software Engineer- Engineering Excellence position is an individual contributor role based in our Austin office. The successful candidate is expected to be a full stack software engineer who is well versed in utilizing software in the Automation of developer tools (CI/CD, Monitoring, Provisioning, etc), UI frameworks, API’s, Service based design and abstraction from off-the-shelf Tools.

The selected candidate will be responsible for development of reusable software frameworks in a wide variety of technologies, languages and databases. Candidate must be willing to adopt new technologies based on team's needs and priorities.

The Reimagine Work team is the driving force behind Visa’s Technology & Business Process Transformation toward Enterprise Agility. We build and operationalize tools and processes to enable transparency, faster decision making, and agility in delivery of Visa products and services. This is a large-scale effort, reaching 5,000, team members.

Visa is embarking on an initiative to standardize our developer tools and processes. As a Staff Software Engineer– Engineering Excellence you will be a driver of this transformation. You will be responsible to define efficiencies, research options, understand the intricate needs of the teams and implement solutions for them.

You will be responsible for driving standardization in tooling where necessary while enabling extensibility when it makes sense.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

5+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 2 years of work experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 0 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 8+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

6 or more years of work experience with a Bachelors Degree or 4 or more years of relevant experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or up to 3 years of relevant experience with a PhD

5, years of experience with development and operational tools like Splunk, Git/Bitbucket, Jira, Maven, Jenkins, JUnit, CheckMarx, Eclipse, Artifactory etc. Exposure to defining and implementing best practices in using them.

3, years of experience with agile/SCRUM development methodologies, CI/CD and DevOps.

Broad understanding of developer tools (Developer sandbox, code quality, build, test, observability, CI/CD, release orchestration, containers, etc) which enable software engineers to focus on writing code

Experience with Java, Python, and Angular

Hands on experience automating development workflows.

Demonstrated knowledge of RDBMs, SQL and NoSQL with experience in building complex and efficient database queries based on the understanding of data models

Experience leveraging data to track performance or inform decisions

Exposure to analyzing large volume data to validate results, find problem trends and do root cause analysis etc.

Proven high-impact leader with record of accomplishment of executing and driving result in a collaborative and thoughtful manner.

Must have proactive and strong communications to work well across teams.

Coaching and mentoring background, mentoring developers and testers to get the best results as well as for the professional and personal growth of the team members.

Must be highly self-motivated with strong organizational skills, outstanding analytic skills and polished facilitation skills

Additional Information

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 117,700.00 to 153,000.00 USD, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
