Position Description Our custodians are onsite to make sure our facility looks clean or orderly at all times. A successful custodian should be skilled in operating tools and equipment and have considerable knowledge of facilities maintenance, industry standards, working knowledge of the hazards and safety precautions common to municipal maintenance and repair activities (asbestos, lead, chemicals) and working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and tools used in modern equipment and facilities maintenance. Our custodians report to our Facility Manager and are supervised by our Director of Operations.
Responsibilities
Up-keep of the school building and surrounding school grounds
Ability to read and interpret instructions, work requests, and labels on chemical supplies
Work independently and also as a team member
Ability to prioritize tasks and manage several projects simultaneously
Perform duties with awareness of all district requirements, state and federal laws, and Martin Luther King policies
Performs work such as daily cleaning of floors, walls, windows, toilets, furniture, cleaning and shampooing of carpets; stripping, waxing, and buffing of tile floors and other associated work.
Performs various custodial duties such as sanitizing, cleaning, scrubbing, stripping, waxing, buffing, dusting furniture, equipment moving, etc. required to maintain a clean and safe environment following established practices and procedures
Performs work that requires the ability to climb ladders perform heavy manual labor including emptying trash, shoveling snow, sanding, up-keep of outside grounds, lifting and moving furniture, moving supplies and equipment and performs other related duties as requested
Dust and cleans furniture, equipment, sills, ledges, heating grills, ventilation units, walls, ceilings, stairs, boilers, etc.
Tidying up and restocking restrooms
Maintaining the break room
Breaking down boxes received
Addressing any cleaning issue that must be taken care of during their shift
Handle emergencies and special request cleaning
Ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, supervisors, vendors and the public
Ability to frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds and occasionally lift and/or move more than 100 pounds
Prepares building for authorized events and approved permits
Locks doors, windows and sections of building; activates security alarms
Ensures nothing is removed from the building without permission from the Executive Director
Provides assistance to maintain safe and effective building operations
Performs upkeep such as changing light bulbs and replacing ceiling tiles
Sweeps/shovels snow and applies sand and salt
Empties wastebaskets, trash receptacles from offices, classrooms, lounges, kitchen, gymnasium, corridors and bathrooms. Places rubbish for pick up.
Sets up rooms as required
Maintains regular and punctual attendance
Performs other duties as assigned

Possession of a Driver's License Required
Successfuly pass CORI & Background checks
Preferred Qualifications Two+ years of cleaning industry experience
Experience working in a school or similar commercial building preferred, particularly in an urban setting
Salary: From $18.00 per hour
Salary commensurate with experience and education
