Business Technical Analyst (Data)
Jersey City, NJ, United States
What are we looking for?
Ideally the analyst produces logic models which involves working across multiple internal technical platforms and following predefined procedures/standard operating procedures. Steps include gathering and vetting business requirements (speaking with stakeholders to confirm scope), creating data ingests (integrate 3rd party APIs), data storage & transformation (RegEx or Boolean logic to filter/manipulate/clean data) and testing/validation (annotating output for accuracy). While this role does have technical aspects, it is not a pure coding role; the ideal candidate will have a mixture of technical and content/R&D knowledge (backgrounds in journalism, news, research, political science, etc are extremely helpful).
The analyst will be expected to work on multiple projects concurrently, balance competing priorities, and communicate progress/blockers clearly with managers and stakeholders. The BTA will require significant training and in-role support before they are productive (2-3 months), so we would want contracts in place to ensure candidates are able to deliver a minimum commitment in return (e.g., 24-36 months). Also, this person will be treated as part of our team, and there will be open communication channels with managers/stakeholders - but we want the BTA to be capable of getting to the point of independent/autonomous working within 6-12 months.
Solid understanding of oriented programming, design patterns, data structures, and algorithms and expertise in Google Sheets
dvanced proficiency with Excel/Google Sheet (e.g., nested formulas, pivot tables, text manipulation) and other technical concepts (e.g., RegEx, Rest APIs)
Experience or demonstrated interest in handling large data sets
Strong communication and collaboration skills
Very strong analytical and quantitative problem-solving skills
Excellent attention to detail, highly organized and process oriented
bility to work independently with clear direction but minimal support, and communicate progress/blockers
English language proficiency must be strong - especially reading/writing
Eagerness to learn, patience, and ability to adapt to changing processes
Desirable: experience operating in a content/social media/news environment. Backgrounds in journalism, social media analysis, news, research, political science, etc are extremely helpful - even if experience is light.
