Job Number: Newell Brands is searching for a highly motivated Manager, Plastics Engineering.The ideal candidate will work across multiple functions and collaborate with all the Newell Brands divisions as a centralized resource. The position will require the technical ability to develop a deep understanding of new polymer technologies and the associated value proposition while being able to manage and execute on the commercial aspects of the development programs.
The candidate will be co-developing new materials to support Newell Brands win bigger businesses model.He/she must have expertise in the area of polymers relative to thermal, mechanical and rheological properties. He/she should also have a solid knowledge of injection, extrusion and blow molding processes.
Responsibilities:
A Plastics Engineering Manager is responsible for researching, identifying, and qualifying the best value sources of supply.They will often work in conjunction with raw material vendors, manufacturing facilities, quality, and product engineering.
Develop a team of engineers by giving clear direction, integrate/leverage global capabilities, and hold team members accountable for project financials and timelines.
Identifies cost and risks at the product component level to meet all financial targets and productivity goals (i.e. 3-5% YOY productivity goals and increase DPO in accordance with working capital objectives).
Interact with raw material purchasing and supply chain functions to implement strategies and action plans to ensure that suppliers support Newell Brands business needs.
Leverages supplier capabilities with business opportunities on a domestic and international basis.
Develop and manage a collaborative relationship between the technical community and supply team functions that will assure strategies, action plans, material and manufacturer selection meet Newell Brands business needs and is aligned with regional/global requirements.
Evaluates and utilizes internal/external technologies and partnering with key suppliers to solve complex problems which will enhance product design, performance and assure best cost.
Proactively attend conferences and manage vendor meetings to identify new trends and technology that could lead to new product advancements and cost savings opportunites.
Provide plastic resin expertise and commercial/technical leadership for programs.
Qualifications:
B.S./M.S. in Plastics Engineering, Polymer Science, Materials Engineering or Chemical Engineering.
7+ years of experience in plastics or a manufacturing setting.
Ability to lead effectively in a team environment
Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation skills
Self-motivated and has an ability to adapt in a fast-paced environment.
Demonstrates excellent problem-solving skills and ability to develop solutions for smooth workflow.
Broad knowledge of plastic resins (both commodity and engineering) as well as colorants and additives.
Working knowledge of plastics manufacturing, processing, and tooling.
Knowledge and/or experience with secondary plastic operations including plastic welding, coatings, adhesive bonding, plating operations, and screw and insert designs.
Six Sigma green belt and/or statistical data analysis skills and experience.
Up to 30% travel, both domestic and international is required.
