About the Department

The Ben-May Department for Cancer Research at the University of Chicago focuses on the basic research on the Molecular, Cellular, and Genetic events contributing to carcinogenesis, metastasis, and therapy resistance. We use interdisciplinary research and are highly collaborative. The Tang Laboratory focuses on the molecular basis of protein structures and functions relevant to human health and diseases. This position is funded by grant from National Institutes of Health. Research analyst will be involved in the research on structures and functions of human metalloproteases.

Job Summary

The Research Analyst will independently perform technical and research functions on projects involving a number of human protein family including human metalloproteases, human chemokines, and bacterial toxins. Will perform experiments in protein expression, purification, biochemical characterizations, protein crystallization and structure determination, small molecule modulator screening and characterization, as well as in vitro and in vitro functional assays. Responsibilities Design and carry out experiments with consultation of principal investigator.

Manage the daily activity and maintenance of the laboratory. This may include, but not limited to ordering of the laboratory supplies and chemicals as well as supervising students and post-doctoral fellows for the laboratory organization.

Summarize results and interpret procedures and finding.

Support principal investigator with manuscript and grant preparation.

Maintains technical and administrative support for a research project.

Analyzes and maintains data and/or specimens. Conducts literature reviews. Assists with preparation of reports, manuscripts and other documents.

Installs, sets up and performs experiments; interacting with students and other laboratory staff under the direction of the principal investigator.

Maintains recruiting and scheduling research subjects; assisting with developing or amending study protocols; assisting with developing data collection tools; assisting with building databases; and providing general administrative support. Has general awareness in research techniques or methods, regulatory policies and procedures, and relevant scientific field.

Performs other related work as needed.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: Minimum requirements include a college or university degree in related field. -

Certifications: - Preferred Qualifications Education: Bachelor’s Degree in Biology, Chemistry, or a related field.

Experience: Experience and knowledge with the following techniques: molecular biology techniques including PCR, plasmid construction, site directed mutagenesis, and recombinant protein expression and purification and cell biology techniques including cell culture, DNA transfection, and cell-based assays.
