The Fox Lab, within the Center for Brain Circuit Therapeutics at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, is seeking a Data Analyst, working under the direction of Dr. Michael Fox, to provide analytical support for research activities. The Fox Lab investigates brain circuit therapeutics across an array of modalities, including functional connectivity MRI, structural connectivity MRI, brain lesions, transcranial magnetic stimulation, deep brain stimulation, cortical brain atrophy, and others.
The Fox Lab is seeking a Data Analyst to assist with translational research projects related to brain circuit therapeutics. Functioning very independently and under the general direction of Dr. Michael Fox, the Data Analyst performs high-level, complex research activities at the Center for Brain Circuit Therapeutics. On an interval basis, the Data Analyst contributes to scientific literature, reports, journals, and presentations and investigates, creates, and develops new methods and technologies for research advancement. The Data Analyst also manages the computational infrastructure of the Center for Brain Circuit Therapeutics. The candidate will work in the clinical and research areas of BWH and will require professionalism, self-motivation, and an ability to work independently. The analyst should have experience in data analyses and/or statistical programming and be highly motivated and able to learn new analytical skills. The analyst /fellow may be responsible for the following activities: collecting, entering, and organizing patient data; cleaning and analyzing large databases of patient data; developing and running scripts and code to support research studies, generating data visualizations using statistical software including Python and Matlab; contributing to the preparation and presentation of research results in the form of oral presentation at meetings and conferences and in the form of publications. Projects range from simple programming and basic data manipulation/analysis to more advanced and predictive analytics. The Data Analyst will work closely with his/her team to execute analytic plans and ensure accurate, valid, reliable, and timely results. The Data Analyst must have a strong attention to detail and an in-depth knowledge of data structure, programming, and administration of computational systems.
Principal Duties And Responsibilities
Work with a variety of tools (ex: Python, Matlab, Excel, etc.) to access data, write queries, develop programming logic, create dashboards, manipulate, and analyze large datasets to meet the needs of the Center for Brain Circuit Therapeutics.
Assisting in all statistical and data management tasks for assigned clinical trials and observational studies. Performs these tasks with a high level of accuracy under the supervision of faculty.
Developing analytical and statistical tools to aid with the analysis of patient data.
Developing and maintaining the Center’s computational environment.
Assists in writing the processing programs necessary to implement new phases of ongoing trials including the checking scripts needed to ensure the validity and consistency of new data.
Contributes data and programming expertise at meetings.
Assists in the design and implementation of interim and final data cleaning and documentation for closed sections of the trial database.
Modifies and runs routine quality control and reporting programs for use by research personnel as well as for circulation to the trial leadership. This includes writing new macros for data management and analysis, as well as production of any graphical output necessary for visualization of the results.
Interacts directly with study personnel to resolve data problems.
Assists with all other tasks as required or assigned.
Qualifications
BS/BA or equivalent required and advanced education/training in data programming and/or statistics
Masters Degree in Public Health, Epidemiology, or Biostatistics preferred.
One year of data analysis experience is strongly preferred.
Skills/Abilities/Competencies Required
Experience with computational environments and data analysis.
Proficiency with programming languages and statistical software (Python-required / Matlab-preferred).
Must be an experienced programmer able to write complex codes and generate queries/reports with limited guidance.
Advanced user of Microsoft Excel, Access, Word, and PowerPoint is required.
Experience with data analysis and reporting and working knowledge of data visualization software is preferred.
Strong understanding of data structure/integration and relational database design.
A basic understanding of quality measurement and quality improvement methods is favorable.
Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously, set priorities, and collaborate with team members and others throughout the organization.
Ability to work with multiple stakeholders with competing priorities.
Self-motivated, resourceful, and able to take initiative.
Confident working independently.
Able to quickly adapt and learn in an ever-changing technical, contractual, and regulatory environment.
Working Conditions
Position located in Boston with option to work from home as well.
