Stanford Medicine’s Office of Diversity in Medical Education (ODME) is committed to cultivating and sustaining an environment that fosters the development of diverse physician leaders who are committed to eliminating the nation’s health inequities through patient care, education, research, and advocacy. ODME serves as the hub for diversity related pathway and career development programs to include pre-medical trainees, Stanford medical students, as well as Stanford Medicine resident and fellow trainees. ODME is committed to supporting the recruitment, inclusion, and retention of diverse GME trainees as future leaders in medicine.

We recognize that changes are needed to invest in the infrastructure for building a diverse medical workforce, amplify the core tenants necessary for an inclusive community, and advocate for equity to support individuals from communities that are currently underrepresented in medicine.

Job Purpose

The GME Diversity Program Manager will lead and manage programs and functions under minimal supervision in the Office of Diversity in Medical Education with a primary focus on supporting the recruitment, inclusion, and retention of diverse GME trainees (residents and fellows) as future leaders in medicine. The successful candidate will administer, implement, and interpret university and department policies and procedures, and collaborate across the School of Medicine and hospitals, on issues in support of our diverse GME trainee constituency at Stanford Health Care and Lucile Packard Children’s Hospital. This may involve identifying, clarifying, and resolving highly visible or complex issues with substantial significance and impact that may span multiple areas, using advanced technical and professional knowledge requiring independent judgment.

The GME Diversity Program Manager will work on problems of diverse complexity (size, degree, focus, expertise, breadth, impact) where analysis of data requires evaluation of identifiable factors. Therefore, the successful individual will demonstrate good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions while also networking with senior internal and external contacts in own area of expertise and outside own area of expertise.

This position will be based on the Stanford campus and is hybrid in nature to support in-person programming in GME.Hybrid means at least 2 days per week on-site and the remaining days will be considered for an option of telecommuting from the Bay Area. However, GME events may require in person support for more than 2 days per week and on-site days may include evenings or weekends (ex., recruitment fairs, community building events) depending on operational need and with advanced discussion.

Core Duties

Help oversee the mini-grants and diversity awards programs including the process of marketing announcements for applications, compiling application materials, setting up a selection rubric and committee to assess projects.

Analyze and interpret policies for equitable recruitment and selection practices in graduate medical education. Revise and implement procedures for addressing reports of bias.

Collaborate with the Assistant Dean of GME to plan recruitment activities locally and nationally of diverse medical students and residents into our GME clinical programs making recommendations that impact recruitment practices within clinical departments.

Partner with the Assistant Dean on strategic direction but will be independent in formulating plans and execution around supporting the GME Diversity Committee and it’s areas of focus: recruitment, inclusion, mentorship, and professional development.

Collect and analyze data pertaining to GME recruitment activities and inclusion initiatives to be able to formulate recommendations to achieve the goal of diversifying our clinical training programs.

Contribute to the communications and outreach needs for the Office of Diversity in Medical Education inclusive of social media posts and webpage updates and organize events within the Stanford Health System.

Meet with and provide guidance to trainees underrepresented in medicine to access their unique needs and concerns.

Work with the Office of Diversity in Medical Education Administrative Director to monitor budget expenditures, provide recommendations to the evolving needs of the Graduate Medical Education diversity committee, and report to Administrative Director regarding administrative functioning of GME.

Serve as a key member of project teams internally.

Train and supervise other staff, volunteers, student and temporary workers.

Education & Experience (Required)

Bachelor’s degree and three years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities (Required)

Strong communication skills to clearly and effectively communicate information to internal and external audiences, client groups, and management.

Advanced analysis and problem solving skills.

Advanced computer skills, including experience with Microsoft Office Suite.

Advanced customer service skills.

Relevant computer systems/technology experience.

Understanding of financial transactions.

Ability to ensure and apply compliance with legal, financial, and university policies and external regulations.

Physical Requirements

Frequently sit, perform desk-based computer tasks.

Occasionally stand, walk, twist, use fine manipulation, grasp, use a telephone, write by hand, sort and file paperwork, lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $69,100 to $100,000 per annum.

The pay offered to a selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal equity, geographic location and external market pay for comparable jobs.
