Job Description Job Description Responsible for daily care of all surgical patients, assist doctors and technicians with surgical and anesthetic procedures, general housekeeping.
Patient Care: Tech Level 1
Triage all patients as they are checked in. Report health concerns to veterinary technicians
Restrain all patients during anesthesia induction and intubation
Monitor all patients during anesthesia
Prepare patients for surgery as instructed
Transport patients from prep to operating room
Assist veterinarians in surgery as needed
Keep technicians informed of animal behavior, health, or concerns
Assist clients with necessary paperwork
Monitor patients in recovery
Assist transport driver with handling and unloading transport animals
Provide excellent patient care
Other duties as assigned.
Patient Care: Tech Level 2
Ensure sure all surgical blood work and tests are preformed before surgeries begin or meds are drawn,
All premeds and induction meds for canines and feline patients are draw correctly, all premeds and induction meds are administered timely and correctly,
All drug logs for controlled substances are in proper order at all times and ready for review by DEA and execute weekly drug protocols and monthly inventories and correct all errors following strict adherence to SNN policies.
All animals are prepped correctly for surgery according to SNN’s Procedure Manual,
Maintain a clean, sterile and organized treatment area, exam rooms, and surgical suite at all times and ensuring the assigned clinic is deep cleaned regularly.
Oversee the daily work activities of the veterinary team and provide the clinic manager feedback.
Assist with all emergency procedures following protocol and veterinarian instructions
Ensure animals are properly monitored while in the surgical area for both rep and post-operative care
Medical Support Staff Job Requirements
Client Education
Must be able to learn basic veterinary medical concepts including but not limited to vaccine protocols and anesthetic risks
Must also be able to communicate basic veterinary concepts to owners and be able to repeat information relayed by a veterinarian
Will be asked to take medical histories for surgical rechecks
Will be asked to communicate with the public on a daily basis in a professional manner.
Animal Handling
Will be asked to handle (on average) 40 dogs and cats per day
Must be able to learn characteristics of animal behavior (for example: be able to identify aggressive or fearful behavior)
Must be able to use appropriate safety equipment for fractious or feral animals (will train) – the use of safety equipment is mandatory
Must possess excellent reflexes
Should be able to identify own limitations and be willing to ask for help
Must become proficient at animal restraint for various procedures.
General Housekeeping
Help with daily cleaning of kennels, cages and public areas when necessary
Help stock prep room and operating room
Spot clean throughout the day
Wash and sterilize all surgical packs throughout the day
Other duties as assigned.
