Lateral Patent Associate Attorney

A law firm in Philadelphia, PA, is seeking a Lateral Patent Associate Attorney to assist in the preparation and prosecution of patent applications, patentability opinions, patent estate management, and patent enforcement for a diverse clientele. The successful candidate will be responsible for handling multiple legal matters, producing high-quality legal work, and contributing to business development efforts.
Duties:
Assist with the preparation and prosecution of patent applications in various technical fields, including software, computer science, electrical, and mechanical engineering.
Provide patentability and clearance opinions to clients.
Manage patent estate portfolios, including licensing and enforcement of patents.
Simultaneously handle the high-level and strategic aspects of multiple legal matters at different stages, from inception to conclusion.
Produce high-quality legal work and bill the required hours to ensure excellent client services.
Contribute to business development efforts both as a group and individually.
Requirements:
Juris Doctor (JD) degree.
Bachelor's or higher degree in electrical, computer, or mechanical engineering, or computer science.
License to practice law in good standing in one or more jurisdictions where the firm conducts business.
Must maintain applicable license renewal and Continuing Legal Education (CLE) requirements.
Registered to practice before the United States Patent and Trademark Office (USPTO).
One year of experience as a licensed attorney at a law firm.
Preferred Qualifications:
2-8 years of experience as a licensed attorney at a law firm.
Prior patent preparation and prosecution experience in software, computer science, electrical, or mechanical engineering areas.
Skills:
Proficiency in patent prosecution and intellectual property law.
Strong analytical and research skills.
Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
Ability to manage multiple legal matters at different stages.
Business development skills and the ability to generate new business.
Knowledge of patent portfolio management, licensing, and enforcement.
