Your New Role:

The Outreach Specialist works closely with other New Day and New Avenues staff, as well as community partners- developing and implementing an innovative, adaptable, survivor-centered, co-advocacy, service model for commercially and sexually exploited youth across Multnomah County. They will serve youth ages 12-25 that are at risk of, or currently being, sexually exploited or trafficked. This outreach specialist provides outreach, crisis intervention, safety planning, resource & referral, basic needs support to young people and helps them connect with the mentor/advocate team for intensive case management services. They manage the referrals and waitlist, providing support and engagement through rapport building in community and stationary outreach efforts. Using a positive youth development and trauma-informed approach, the work will focus on prevention, intervention and transition through harm reduction, and life skill development & support. Due to the overrepresentation of youth of color and LGBTQIA2S+ youth impacted by trafficking, this position focuses on providing culturally specific and responsive services for youth. The base location for this position is at our Youth Opportunity Center in East County. In addition to providing direct services to youth, the Outreach Specialist meets with regional stakeholders and practitioners to develop best-practice and enhance community response to sex trafficking.

Knowledge & Skills:

* Proven ability and commitment to working with LGBTQ and other culturally diverse staff, participants and community, particularly around the politics, theories and practice models surrounding gender and sexuality.

Ability and desire to work with diverse staff and excel in a multi-cultural environment

Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Use of personal automobile for transporting self and clients for work purposes

Must have access to an automobile, a valid driver's license, and active auto insurance on that vehicle

Must be willing to be CPR trained and certified.

Education & Experience:

Minimum of two years of experience working with high risk youth or providing outreach services OR a Bachelor's Degree in social work, psychology or related human services field experience required. Individuals with lived experience and folks in the BIPOC community are specifically encouraged to apply!

Proficient or above in using excel or similar programs to track data

Prior experience engaging youth who face multiple barriers, preferably around contexts associated with exploitation
