Job Description

The incumbent analyzes demand for architecture services, assesses the current architecture to ensure suitability for future business needs, participates in setting strategy for target architecture and works on tactical solutions. Serves as a member of the ITS Architecture Council and is part of the team that ensures the long-term health of BC platforms, frameworks and software systems.

The duties of this job include:

Providing technical consulting on projects.

Developing and maintaining reference architecture models.

Perform technical reviews to ensure new project ideas conform to BC architecture principles.

Stay abreast and provides guidance of new technologies and tools to integrate them into the BC environment.

Review new proof of concepts to ensure a good fit with the existing application architecture models.

This role leads the efforts to define and document the technical blueprints and reference architecture models for ITS. This person utilizes these models to provide guidance to project teams to help them arrive at the appropriate technical solutions to ensure that all University systems are secure, scalable and supportable.

The enterprise architect analyzes, defines and documents system architecture and design for business processes, data, workflow, logical processes, hardware, interfaces with other systems, interior and exterior checks and controls, outputs and operating system environment. Working with applications teams, IT security/systems staff, and the Chief Technology Officer, this person will ensure a cohesive architecture model for the University as well as to arrive at long-term solutions in the form of a strategic plan that aligns with the University’s mission and in support of future business needs.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $130,550 to $163,200; salary commensurate with relevant experience. This position offers a hybrid work schedule at the discretion of management (not a fully remote option).

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science or related discipline required.

Must have 8 years of experience in software development, programming language and QA practices.

Strong understanding of software development principles and software development lifecycle (SDLC) methodologies (Agile, Scrum, Waterfall).

Awareness of quality assurance and testing practices to ensure the reliability and robustness of the software architecture and proficiency in programming languages.

Must have at least 5 years of experience in designing new systems and architecture and experience in leadership and mentoring such as:

Ability to conceptualize and design scalable, reliable, and maintainable software architectures, experience with designing distributed systems.

Must have good communication, interpersonal skills and project management skills.

Proficiency in programming languages, as well as experience with relevant frameworks and technologies. Knowledge of Java, JavaScript is a plus.

Strong understanding of software development principles, including object-oriented programming, design patterns, and architectural styles including Model View Controller, microservices).

Experience with designing distributed systems, including considerations for performance, security, high availability and scalability.

Ability to identify and mitigate technical risks early in the development process.

Understanding of ethical considerations in software development, such as privacy, security, and data protection.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills to effectively convey technical concepts to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
