Founded with just two deer and two mountain lions in 1888 as the first zoo in the Southwest, this City of Dallas-owned but privately managed zoo is a thriving example of a successful public-private partnership. As an accredited member of the Association of Zoos & Aquariums (AZA) for 35 years, the Zoo provides a home for more than 2,000 animals representing over 400 species.
Safety Manager
JOB SUMMARY
The Dallas Zoo is looking for a Safety Manager who would like to take their knowledge and skillset of safety compliance and apply it to an exciting world behind the scenes of a large and successful zoo. The Safety Manager will assist the Sr. Director of Safety & Security in providing a safe and secure environment for all employees and guests. This position will also help to coordinate all regulatory compliance with various agencies including, but not limited to, OSHA, AZA, USDA, The State of Texas, Dallas County and The City of Dallas. This person will also help to identify and mitigate safety risks across all levels of the organization.
SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
* Assist Director of Safety & Security in the development of continuous improvement plans promoting the health and safety of Zoo Employees & Guests* Identify safety hazards or unsafe work practices and help to suggest corrective action plans* Manage Access Control for Zoo Areas* Manage the Zoo Safety Training Program* Help to maintain various Zoo Fire and Burglar Alarm Systems* Assist in incident investigation and resolution* Maintain compliance with various regulating agencies* Conduct random facility safety inspections* Assist with the Security Function as needed* Special Projects based on Zoo Initiatives
QUALIFICATIONS
* Associate's degree or other higher education required* At least 4 years of relevant safety related experience preferred* Working knowledge of current OSHA regulations* Solid observational skills* Must have good verbal and written communication skills to work effectively with others at all levels of the organization.* Able to work flexible hours. This position will include a weekend schedule.* Must be able to walk, stand, sit, kneel, stoop, crawl, twist, reach above head, pull bend, climb stairs
and ladders and carry up to 50lbs as well as work in inclement weather.
* Must have a valid driver's license (to operate Zoo vehicles) and reliable transportation.* Proficient in Microsoft Office Software* Creative, innovative thinker with a common sense approach to complex issues
