Mine geology databases maintained by the Senior Database Analyst are used to generate ore control releases which are then mined by operations. The quality and timeliness of data has a direct impact on the overall performance of the mine. The exploration databases maintained by the Senior Database Analyst are used for Reserve and Resource estimations and directly impact company performance.

Work completed by the Senior Database Analyst in support of the Mine Geology Group (principle customer) includes:

1) modifying the structure of the mine geology database in SQL format according to the needs of the department,

2) adding and modifying jobs for data entry and synchronization,

3) updating the QAQC protocols based on changes in site procedures and according to Newmont standards,

4) monitoring the QAQC of the assays and following up on concerns,

5) integrating the exploration and production database with Vulcan, ArcGIS and Leapfrog.

This position reports directly to the North America GIS and Data Manager with daily coordination with the Exploration Manager and exploration team.

Purpose The Senior Database Analyst is in charge of maintaining and further modifying an in-house SQL database for validating, storing, and auditing a large variety of large datasets (Production drilling, exploration drilling, sampling etc.) in support on Mine Geology, and Exploration Geology as well as Mine Operations and Mine Engineering. This position will be working to support mining and exploration data for Newmont’s Eleonore site, Québec.

Understand and promote the Newmont Health and Safety procedures, ensure that members of the team follow the procedure, stablish a good environment for team members to speak up when identifying unsafe situations

Support investigations regarding reported safety incidents

Complete safety training and certification as required by site and departmental procedure

Actively participate in back-to-work and toolbox meetings

General Duties Manage the exploration geology databases of the Eleonore Project and ensure high quality data is available in a timely manner for resource and reserve estimations.

Upgrade and modify the structure of existing databases in SQL format according to the needs of the Mine Geology department.

Demonstrate excellent proactive communication with Engineering, Operations, Exploration and Mine Geology personnel.

Create, update, and modify jobs in SQL for data entry, synchronization and reporting.

Establish procedures to provide data to the end-users in the desired format according to their needs (ArcGIS, Leapfrog, Vulcan, Access, etc).

Coordinate with Newmont internal and external consultants to achieve Company requirements in database management and QAQC.

Coordinate closely with the Newmont exploration team to ensure the use of the latest tools and software available within the company and globally.

Demonstrate the Newmont values of Safety, Integrity, Sustainability, Inclusion and Responsibility in all actions and make sure this is followed by people in the department.

Participate in capability training per departmental procedure

The above duties and responsibilities are representative of the nature and level of work assigned and are not necessarily all-inclusive.

Training & Experience Geology or related geosciences Bachelor of Science degree or diploma, or Information Systems B.S. degree or diploma with relevant work in the geosciences.

5 years or more experience with exploration databases (drilling, mining, exploration) with strong SQL skills or transferable skills from commercial products such as acQuire, Maxwell, etc.

Demonstrated ability to read, write and converse in English at a very high standard.

Strong computer skills including experience with SQL Server, SQL Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL scripting for DDL and DML, ArcGIS, Access etc.

Competent in the analysis and evaluation of complex data sets (multivariate).

Demonstrated ability to identify continuous improvement opportunities.

Good time management, communication, and interpersonal skills.

Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving abilities.

Ability to be flexible and handle multiple priorities in team‐based environment.

Must be a self-starter and able to balance

Working Conditions Schedule : 4 days of work followed by 3 days off

Remote work and presence at the Éléonore mine.
