The Role The Director, Accounting will be responsible for a number of critical functions within the Wyndham Hotels and Resorts (WHR) Finance department and will be a key member of the WHR Accounting management team. The Director, Accounting will be responsible for leading various aspects of our monthly, quarterly and annual financial close cycles including the review and posting of journal entries, the review of balance sheet account reconciliations and monthly variance analysis. This position will oversee the accounting and reporting for a number of critical areas of the business including accounts receivable and bad debt, fixed assets and depreciation and leases. The Director, Accounting will be responsible for identifying and resolving financial issues and communicating such issues to senior finance management on a timely basis. This position will also partner with our Internal Audit and external audit teams on all quarterly and annual audit procedures and internal controls testing.
This position will manage one to two direct reports.
What you'll do Coordinate various aspects of the monthly, quarterly and annual financial close cycles to ensure the timely reporting of accurate financial information. Specific responsibilities include: Review and posting of journal entries.
Monthly balance sheet and P&L analysis.
The delivery of timely and accurate results on a monthly basis.
The timely and accurate preparation of external reporting packages, tax packages, and internal / external audit requests.
Review of monthly balance sheet account reconciliations.
Monthly balance sheet reviews.
Partner with internal and external audit on audit requests and internal controls relating to areas of responsibility.
Manage the accounts receivable and bad debt, fixed assets and depreciation and leases processes. Responsibilities include reviewing and posting journal entries, reviewing account reconciliations, annual impairment reviews, and monthly / quarterly reporting. This position will work closely with individuals across multiple functions including Billing and Collections, IT, FP&A, and Facilities to gather data and other information critical to these processes. Direct and review the daily activities of the accounting team members involved in these processes.
Design, implement, document and maintain policies and procedures supporting efficient and effective processes as well as maintain strong internal controls over the financial reporting process. Maintain supporting documentation for all SOX internal controls relating to the financial close, accounts receivable and fixed asset processes.
Lead the statutory audit process for a number of our international legal entities, ensuring all applicable deadlines are met. Responsibilities include the preparation of legal entity financial statements and footnotes and partnering with external auditors on all statutory audit requests.
Lead the annual tax package preparation process and review all packages prior to submission. Responsibilities include serving as the main contact point with the Tax team and managing the preparation and review of annual federal and state tax packages.
Identify and implement opportunities to streamline accounting data and processes and work cross functionally to design and implement changes.
Coach and develop staff including formal objective setting, performance reviews and ongoing feedback throughout the year. Plan staff assignments and development and make people management decisions.
You'll be successful if you have Strong technical accounting background with knowledge of practices and concepts associated with GAAP.
Proven leadership skills.
Strong analytical skills with the ability to anticipate issues and aggressively drive initiatives to achieve results.
Excellent written and oral communication skills and ability to interact with all levels of the organization and external contacts.
Strong collaborative skills and ability to work in a dynamic team based environment.
Detail oriented, self-motivated and able to work on cross functional teams.
Strong PC skills, including Excel, Oracle and Hyperion (HFM).
Innovative team player that tests assumptions and challenges current processes.
Required Qualifications/Experience Bachelor’s degree in Accounting required.
8+ plus years of progressive accounting and financial reporting experience.
Public accounting experience preferred (Big 4 / large regional accounting firms). Combination of public and private accounting experiences a plus.
CPA preferred.
