CHILD AND ADOLESCENT PSYCHIATRY FELLOWSHIP PROGRAM DIRECTOR - 2020

Our Department of Academic Psychiatry is seeking an academic Child and Adolescent psychiatrist to lead our Child Adolescent Psychiatry Fellowship program. The program is based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. Experience in leading ACGME-accredited psychiatry residency program is highly desirable. This is a clinician educator position with direct patient care responsibilities.

The Training Director must commit at least 50% effort to the Child and Adolescent Psychiatry Training Program. He/she is responsible for the overall administration of the training program, including recruitment, the development of standards for admission to the program and selection of residents. Working in conjunction with other members of the faculty, the Training Director is responsible for establishing the goals and objectives of the training program and for monitoring the quality and content of the clinical and didactic curriculum. The Training Director is responsible for evaluating the performance and progress of the residents as well as working with faculty in determining standards for recommending graduation from the program. The Director will also consult and collaborate with the Director of the General Psychiatry Residency Training Program in the teaching of child and adolescent psychiatry to the general psychiatry residents. He/she will collaborate with the Director of Undergraduate Medical Education in developing programs in child and adolescent psychiatry for medical students. The Director is expected to maintain records documenting all of the above activities. Finally, the Director shall monitor the ACGME/RRC Program Requirements for Residency Education in Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and insure that the program is compliant with these requirements. As a member of the faculty, the incumbent will teach and supervise both medical students and residents. Direct clinical services to be provided at Company sites.

FISCAL RESPONSIBILITY: Negotiates with the Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry for appropriate allocations of faculty time, space and resources for the training program. Monitors program support and informs both the Director of the Division of Child and Adolescent Psychiatry and the Chair of the Department of Psychiatry if additional resources and/or faculty are needed to fulfill program requirements.

Responsible for meeting clinical productivity targets as determined by Department Chair and/or Directors of Company sites. Insures data about services rendered and necessary for billing are transmitted to the appropriate billing office in a timely and efficient manner. Insures that patients are provided the services they need in the least restrictive and least costly environment.

EMPLOYEE INTERACTION: All staff, faculty and trainees who participate in the training program for child and adolescent psychiatry residents; all staff, faculty and trainees who participate in the child and adolescent psychiatry training for general psychiatry residents; all general and child and adolescent psychiatry residents; medical students, hospital and college administration on all campuses.

POLICY AND PROCEDURE INTERPRET ATION: Responsible for working with the faculty and residents in the Department of Psychiatry in the development and writing of a manual with written policies and procedures for the conduct of the training program. These policies and procedures must be in compliance with ACGME requirements and consistent with the sponsoring institution's policies and procedures, particularly in so far as due process procedures for disciplinary actions are concerned. The manual must be reviewed annually and revised to insure compliance with ACGME requirements. The manual must be distributed at the beginning of each academic year to all residents. The incumbent shall be compliant with the policies and procedures of affiliated sites, including but not limited to Northwestern Human Services (NHS), St. Christopher’s and Woods Services.

PATIENT CONTACTS: Cases that the child and adolescent psychiatry residents and general psychiatry residents bring in for supervision and review of on-call cases. Cases used for problem case conferences and cases seen by the medical students assigned to the child and adolescent psychiatry rotation. Outpatients and inpatients seen within the Psychiatric Physicians Practice of the University and at Ducom affiliated sites.

INTERNAL CLIENTS/CONT ACTS: All staff and faculty who participate in the training program for child and adolescent psychiatry residents; all staff and faculty who participate in the child and adolescent psychiatry training for general psychiatry residents; all general and child and adolescent psychiatry residents; hospital and college administration at all teaching sites; staff and faculty from other departments who participate in the training programs, e.g. Pediatrics, Neurology, Pharmacology, etc. and medical students; College of Medicine administration and corporate legal departments on an as needed basis. Clerical staff assigned to the outpatient program.

EXTERNAL CLIENTS/CONTACTS: CEO's and clinical service chiefs at all teaching hospitals and health care facilities; staff and administrators in agencies that provide for clinical and didactic components of the training program; civil and family courts; the County and State Office of Mental Health as well as other governmental agencies that interact with the program and its trainees; social service agencies, community mental health centers, courts as well as any other agencies or institutions requesting outpatient services or contracts for trainees and extended care linkages. Also interacts with accreditation agencies and regulatory bodies from JCAHO, ACGME, LCME, the County, State and Federal Government. Interacts with management, clinical providers and staff at Ducom affiliated agencies

• 0.5 FTE Program Administration and education time and 0.5 FTE direct patient care.

• 0.5 FTE Program Administration will include program development, resident supervision and teaching, and scholarly activity.

QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a Doctor of Medicine or Doctor of Osteopathy and have completed both an ACGME (Accreditation Council for Graduate Medical Education) or AOA (American Osteopathic Association) accredited residency in psychiatry and an accredited fellowship in child and adolescent psychiatry.

• Licensed or be eligible for an unrestricted license to practice medicine in Pennsylvania

• Prior experience as program director or associate training director is highly desirable, and minimum of 3 years of experience of participating residency education, supervision, mentoring and administration is required.
