Department Summary
Business & Finance Solutions (BFS), a division of UCLA under the Office of the Vice Chancellor & Chief Financial Officer, provides innovative campus wide solutions to complex financial and business matters, maximizing value to the University community. BFS promotes a collaborative opportunity for campus to enhance revenue opportunities, manage campus risk, facilitate financial payment solutions for campus operations and students, act as an internal tax advisor to campus, provide financial reporting for UCLA, travel services, purchasing and procurement of goods and services and provides payroll analytics and support.BFS encompasses the following departments with approximately 400 employees: Financial Management & Reporting, Purchasing and Procurement, Tax Services, UC Travel Center, Treasury, Costing Policy and Sales & Service, Payroll Partner, Student Financial Services, Accounts Payable, Mail, Document & Distribution Services, Insurance & Risk Management, and Operations.
Position Summary
Under the general direction of the General Liability Insurance Program Manager, the Contract Specialist is responsible for reviewing contracts and documents (including highly complex technology transfer agreements, grant, award, and subaward agreement, affiliation and partnership agreements, service and vendor agreements and terms and conditions, miscellaneous memorandums of understanding, leases, license agreements, facility use agreements), for, but not limited to, compliance with the Regent's Standing Orders, appropriate risk allocations and risk analysis, and for insurance coverage recommendations to adequately protect the University. As needed, this position may also support the processes and procedures of the UCLA Real Estate and Asset Management offices associated with the preparation, execution, and ongoing maintenance of real estate related documents including leases, work letters, subleases, reimbursement agreements, facilities use agreements, licenses of real property, and notices (including notices of pay or quit, termination, exercise of options, and lender notices).

Qualifications
3+ years in reviewing and drafting a wide variety of agreements, ranging from technology transfer agreements to real estate leases. (Required)
Minimum of 7 years of contract drafting and negotiation experience with Bachelors degree (Required)
Minimum of 3 years of contract drafting and negotiation experience with Juris Doctor degree (Required)
Detailed knowledge of the contracts, contractual language and the contract lifecycle. (Required)
Detailed knowledge of relevant Risk Management procedures and regulations, including an comprehensive understanding of contract law, risk transfer practices within contracts, and indemnification provisions. (Required)
Proficiency in database, word processing, spreadsheet and presentation software; ability to produce polished reports, advanced statistical analysis, and training materials. (Required)
Ability to interact effectively and establish cooperative working relationships with persons from diverse backgrounds and at various organizational levels within and outside the university. (Required)
Demonstrated ability to manipulate and effectively analyze quantitative data to identify problems and trends, recommend action to be taken, and implement necessary solutions, policies and procedures. (Required)
Demonstrated oral and writing skills to produce and disseminate policies, procedures, directives, memoranda, claim settlement summaries, and email in a form and style appropriate to their intended audiences. (Required)
Excellent verbal and written skills communication skills, proven negotiation and persuasion techniques. Excellent contract drafting skills. (Required)
Self-motivated with strong organizational skills. (Required)
Education, Licenses, Certifications & Personal Affiliations
Bachelor's Degree In a related field or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required) Or
Juris Doctor (JD) Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience (Required)
Professional designation such as CPCU or ARM. (Preferred)
