Summary:

The Information Security and Privacy team at Temple University is looking for an experienced and technical sound Security Architect to be responsible for the designing, building, testing, and implementing design, building, testing, and implementation of security systems within our IT (Information Technology) network. The security architect's responsibilities include reviewing our current security measures, recommending enhancements, identifying areas of weakness, working with other university units to architect enterprise solutions that meet security and privacy requirements and responding promptly to security breaches. This role is designed for self-motivated and collaborative individuals as it presents exposure to all areas of Information Technology Services and the Schools and Colleges. They will also be responsible for managing and maintaining relationships with customers and peer organizations within the Information Technology Services department. Performs other duties as assigned.

Determine the protection needs (i.e., security controls) for the information system(s) and network(s) and document appropriately.

Perform security reviews, identify gaps in security architecture, and develop a security risk management plan.

Identify and prioritize critical business functions in collaboration with organizational stakeholders.

Design, build and implement enterprise-class security systems for a production environment.

Align standards, frameworks and security with overall business and technology strategy.

Identify and communicate current and emerging security threats.

Design security architecture elements to mitigate threats as they emerge.

Create solutions that balance business requirements with information and cyber security requirements.

Identify security design gaps in existing and proposed architectures and recommend changes or enhancements.

Use current programming language and technologies to write code, complete programming, and perform testing and debugging of applications.

Ensure that acquired or developed system(s) and architecture(s) are consistent with organization's cybersecurity architecture guidelines.

Keeping up to date with the latest security technologies and trends: Security architects must stay up to date with the latest security technologies and trends to ensure that their skills remain relevant and effective.

Required Education & Experience:

Bachelors degree

in Cyber Security, Information Technology, Computer Science , or related field. At least 5 years of progressive IT security experience. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

Required Skills & Abilities:

* A strong working knowledge of current IT risks, security implementations, and computer operating and software programs.

* Excellent teaching, problem-solving, communication, and interpersonal skills.

* Security mindedness and risk assessment with awareness of security standards and best practices.

* Demonstrated ability to manage tasks and projects with minimal supervision.

* Understanding of threat analysis and security incident response

* Knowledge of Windows, UNIX, and Linux.

* A grasp of perimeter security controls such as firewalls, IDS/IPS, network access controls, and network segmentation.

* Knowledge within various aspects of wireless security such as routers, switches, and VLAN security.

* Knowledge of security concepts related to DNS, including routing, authentication, SIEM, VPN, proxy services, and DDOS mitigation technologies.

* Demonstrated verbal and written communication skills along with the ability to effectively interact with diverse groups of individuals.

Preferred:

* Advanced IT Security Certifications such as CISSP, CISA CASP+.

* An understanding of cloud security.

* Identity, Security and Access Management concerns (LDAP Directories, Web SSO, SAML etc.)

This position requires a background check.

This position is assigned a hybrid work arrangement (on-campus and remote), the duration of this hybrid work arrangement is at the discretion of Temple University and the Department.
