A New York-based travel company is seeking a highly adaptable and versatile data engineer who thrives on taking up multiple roles and responsibilities within the realm of data engineering. As a Versatile Data Engineer, you will play a crucial role in our organization, taking charge of various aspects such as data design, data architecture, data governance, reporting, and more. You will partner with our business analyst to help develop our solutions to our data needs throughout the organization. Your expertise in data engineering, architecture, and governance practices will be instrumental in building and maintaining our enterprise data.
PROFESSIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
Reporting to the VP of Information Technology, the Cloud Data Engineer will have the following responsibilities:
•Data Design and Architecture: Collaborate with cross-functional teams to understand business requirements and design scalable and efficient data models, databases, data warehouses, and data pipelines. Apply best practices to ensure optimal data flow, integration, and storage.
•Data Governance and Compliance: Develop and implement data governance strategies, policies, and procedures to ensure data quality, integrity, and security. Establish data governance frameworks, metadata management, data lineage, and data classification methodologies. Ensure compliance with relevant data regulations, such as GDPR or CCPA.
•Data Integration and ETL: Develop, implement, and maintain ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes and data integration workflows to aggregate and integrate data from various sources into our data ecosystem. Ensure data consistency, accuracy, and timeliness throughout the data pipelines.
•Reporting and Analytics: Design, develop, and maintain scalable reporting solutions, dashboards, and data visualization tools to empower stakeholders in accessing and interpreting data. Collaborate with business users to understand their reporting needs and deliver actionable insights derived from data analysis.
•Performance Optimization: Continuously monitor and optimize the performance of data infrastructure components, including databases, data warehouses, and ETL processes. Fine-tune queries, optimize data processing workflows, and leverage indexing and caching techniques to improve system efficiency.
•Data Architecture and Technology Evaluation: Stay abreast of emerging data engineering technologies, tools, and methodologies. Evaluate and recommend new technologies, frameworks, and platforms to enhance data processing, storage, and analysis capabilities. Contribute to the strategic planning and evolution of the data architecture.
REQUIREMENTS
•Proven experience as a data engineer or in a similar role, demonstrating expertise in data design, data architecture, data governance, and reporting.
•Strong understanding of data engineering principles, data modeling, database design, and ETL concepts.
•Proficiency in SQL and data querying languages. Experience with programming languages like Python, Java, or Scala is desirable.
•Experience with data governance frameworks, data compliance, and privacy regulations.
•Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (e.g., AWS & Azure) and related services such as AWS Glue, Redshift, OneLake, Azure SQL, or equivalent.
•Strong knowledge of reporting and visualization tools such as Tableau and PowerBI.
•Excellent problem-solving skills, attention to detail, and ability to work independently as well as collaboratively in a team environment.
•Strong communication and interpersonal skills to effectively convey technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
•Availability outside of working hours in case of emergencies and upgrades, with the ability to be reached by cell phone at all times.
•Must be a team player.
QUALIFICATIONS
•Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or a related field.
•Minimum 4-5 years of experience in an IT/Dev environment.
•Certifications in Azure or AWS a plus.

COMPENSATION STATEMENT
Lindblad Expeditions determines the pay for positions using local, national, and industry-specific survey data. We evaluate external equity and the cost of labor/prevailing wage index in the relative marketplace for jobs directly comparable to jobs within our company. Our posted salary range is based on national data and may be refined for a candidate's region/town/cost of living.
For new hires, we strive to make competitive offers allowing the new employee room for future growth. Salaries will be based on the applicant’s location, level of experience, education, and specialized knowledge and skills. An employee/candidate with a stronger skill set will receive higher pay.
