VOC NURSE

Job Summary

Under the supervision of the Administrative Nurse (AN) or Charge Nurse, the Clinical Nurse II (CNII) is responsible for providing skilled and comprehensive nursing care to radiation oncology patients with a wide variety of oncological and/or disease related problems seen for consultation, treatment, and follow-up. Through application of the nursing process, the CNII provides direct care and implements plans for continuity and coordination of patient care with other members of the patient's health care team. In collaboration with the AN, the CNII provides appropriate guidance and supervision for ancillary nursing personnel and participates in orientation of new medical and/or technical personnel. Responsibilities include compliance with Medical Center and departmental Policies and Procedures, Environmental Safety, House and Telephone Standards, compliance with all regulatory agency requirements. The position may involve travel between UCSF Radiation Oncology sites. The hours are generally day time from about 7AM to 5PM, but may vary with start times from 6:00 AM to 11:00 AM and end times may vary from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM. This role will function as the primary contact for the patients of a specific MD(s) to manage side effects, symptoms, care and coordination of complex interdisciplinary services. The CNII will work closely with one or more physicians who will be directing and delegating care as appropriate.

Required Qualifications

Minimum of three (3) years' clinical experience as a Registered Nurse (RN) employed in acute care setting within the last two (2) to four (4) years, including working in a procedural setting

Minimum one (1) year of Oncology experience

Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of California

Current healthcare provider CPR certification

American Heart Association BLS Certification

ACLS within three (3) months of hire

Excellent communication skills

Experience with starting IV's and maintaining IV therapy

Flexibility to be trained to recover pediatric and adult patients placed under anesthesia

Ability to interact on an interpersonal level with patients and staff. Ability to deal with issues related to death and dying

Basic computer skills including, use of email, internet, navigating windows, and ability to learn various computer systems such as EPIC, Aria and other clinical tools

This position requires flexibility to orient and work at all UCSF Medical Center Radiation Oncology locations

Preferred Qualifications Inpatient, PACU, ED, ICU, recovery or related procedural experience

Accessing ports

Radiation oncology experience

License/Certification Current licensure as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of California

Current healthcare provider CPR certification

American Heart Association BLS Certification

The UCSF Helen Diller Family Comprehensive Cancer Center in an accredited National Cancer Institute Comprehensive Cancer Center. The NCI-Designation recognizes the scientific leadership, resources, and the depth and breadth of the research in basic, clinical and population science. As a Comprehensive Cancer Center, we demonstrate the added depth and breadth of research as well as substantial transdisciplinary research that bridges these scientific areas. The Department of Radiation Oncology encompasses three sites and provides comprehensive radiation treatment using the best in class modalities. Our interdisciplinary team of nurses, therapists, dosimetrists, physics and physician treat 250 patients daily at three hospital sites.
