POSITION SUMMARY: At the New Orleans Bulk Terminal, the Equipment Operator will operate and maintain assigned equipment on/in the terminal, barge, and dock, performing tasks as required, while keeping an accurate log report and assisting crew with other duties.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the safe operation of assigned equipment (Material Handlers, bobcats, dozers, man lifts, trackhoes, front-end loaders and conveyer devices) in areas such as barge holds, dock, rail yard, open storage yards and warehouse
Transload cargo to and from truck/rail/barge
Assist with putting on/removing of barge covers. Assist with general rigging as required
Ensures the maintenance of all assigned equipment including performing pre-job inspections, preventive and periodic maintenance
Acts as a signalman for other equipment operators and crane operators as needed
Assists in all dock, rail and terminal operations when necessary
Completes daily inspection of assigned equipment and forwards to maintenance as required
Responsible for conducting quality inspections of various cargoes as requested by the terminal supervisor
Report ALL incidents through company's reporting protocol
Support company safety initiatives
Demonstration of knowledge of all required competencies
Perform other duties as required
EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS: At least 1 year of heavy equipment experience in a maritime/ industrial environment (preferred)
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS: High school or equivalent (preferred)
SKILL/ KNOWLEDGE REQUIREMENTS: Experience in a similar position in an industrial setting (preferred)
Working experience in cargo transportation (preferred)
Ability to safely operate assigned equipment
Ability to operate heavy equipment within a confined space
Thorough knowledge of transloading operation, cargo handling and maintenance programs
Proficiency, and accuracy in clerical skills and record keeping
Thorough knowledge of personnel safety programs
Proficiency in assigned equipment and dock operations
Be physically fit to perform all essential physical demands of this job safely
Demonstrated safe work practices, history, and leadership ability

WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Incumbent will work in all weather conditions ranging from warm/hot-cool/cold as well as occasional rain. Will work at different elevations, noise levels will be moderate-high. Job site will contain light to heavy equipment vehicles, small to large equipment, materials, communication equipment, and tools.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
The physical nature of the work will vary from day to day based on operational needs; however, the job will require the incumbent to be able to perform: climbing, balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, crawling, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, typing, grasping, feeling, talking, hearing, seeing, and repetitive motion. Incumbent will also be required to wear personal protective equipment (PPE) including, but not limited to: Hard Hat, eyewear, safety vests, gloves, masks/ respirators (when necessary) and steel-toe boots.
Medium-Heavy work involves lifting no more than 75 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
