Research Scientist - ( 3291132 )
GENERAL SUMMARY/OVERVIEW:
A Research Scientist position is available in the laboratory of Marc Wein at the Massachusetts General Hospital (MGH) Endocrine Unit. This position offers an opportunity to apply skills in mouse genetics, bone cell biology, molecular/cellular biology, and advanced histopathology analysis of dental issues. Background in one or more of these areas is preferred. This is a full time 40-hour/week position
The Wein laboratory investigates molecular mechanisms used by parathyroid hormone to exert its function in target cells in bone and other tissues. We employ wide-ranging techniques to study parathyroid hormone signaling in vitro and in vivo. These studies will lead to an improved understanding of skeletal responses to PTH, and have important implications for the treatment of osteoporosis, dental disease, and chronic kidney disease.
Responsibilities comprise, but are not limited to:
Animal husbandry to track the status of a complex colony of genetically-modified mice
Mouse necropsy and collection of dental-relevant tissues for histopathology and primary cell culture
Histopathology analysis of jaw and dental tissues
Immunohistochemistry and in situ hybridization of jaw and dental tissues
RNA isolation, RT-qPCR
Keeping an active and accurate laboratory notebook
Regular meetings with members of research team to present and discuss data
Manuscript writing, figure preparation
Present data at local and international scientific meetings
