About the role

As the Senior Engineering Manager, Playback Services, you will lead the team that is building the backend services that power the playback experience for millions of anime fans across the world. These services ensure that our fans get the best VOD and Live playback experience possible based on their device and playback environment. This is a high-visibility role in our engineering organization and will provide you ample opportunities to showcase the accomplishments of your team.

You will...

Shape and execute the technical roadmap for the playback platform and content protection services.

Lead the development of scalable services with high availability and low latency.

Collaborate with product managers, digital supply chain teams and other stakeholders to ensure alignment of roadmaps and initiatives

Recruit, mentor, and develop high-caliber engineers with a passion for creating exceptional video playback solutions.

Foster a positive work environment that encourages creativity, accountability, and professional growth.

In the role of Senior Engineering Manager, Playback Services, you will report to the VP of Video Engineering.

We are considering applicants for the location(s) of Dallas, San Francisco or Culver City. Remote work is also a possibility depending on your experience and location.

About You

You have 5+ years of proven experience leading engineering teams with a focus on the development of video playback services.

You have a strong technical background with expertise in video playback, DRM and related protocols and standards.

You're able to collaborate with diverse partners.

You have a track record of delivering complex projects on time and within budget.

The Video Platform teams build the software and systems that power the most critical Crunchyroll user experience - watching video - across all mobile, desktop, and connected devices. We are passionate about providing the best possible playback experience to our fans. We own video from ingestion through playback. We strive to provide a scalable playback platform with robust, fault-tolerant services and extensible and flexible players that provide our customers with a premium playback experience.
