**SCHOOL/UNIT DESCRIPTION:**

The Office of the Vice Provost and Dean of Research (VPDOR) provides guidance and support to facilitate, nurture and safeguard a thriving research ecosystem at Stanford. To this end, the VPDOR assumes dual roles. As Cognizant Dean for the independent academic units, the VPDOR oversees the program scope and resources for the fifteen multi-disciplinary and independent laboratories, centers, and institutes which operate outside of the schools’ boundaries. As Vice Provost and the University’s Chief Research Officer, the VPDOR recommends and promulgates new policy and oversees its implementation; manages the mission-support offices that provide services of research compliance and administration, health and safety, and technology transfer to Stanford’s research enterprise; advises the President and Provost in a broad array of academic issues pertaining to and beyond research.

**POSITION SUMMARY:**

Reporting to the Senior Director, the Research Security Coordinator will support the development, implementation, monitoring, and management of the university’s research security program including export control compliance, the Global Engagement Review Program “GERP”, and federal research security requirements such as those described in National Security Presidential Memorandum –33 (NSPM-33) and the Creating Helpful Incentives to Produce Semiconductors & Science (CHIPS) Act. This position will collaborate with key constituents within the VPDOR office as well as across the university including but not limited to the Office of Research Administration, the Office of Technology Licensing, the Office of Development, Schools, and units to support research security and export control compliance.

**CORE DUTIES:**

+ Assist in the review of research proposals, awards, and other agreements for research security and export control requirements

+ Assist with developing, implementing, and monitoring Technology Control Plans (TCPs) and research security risk mitigation plans

+ Support and coordinate research security-related committees and working groups

+ Collect and analyze data, create reports, identify, and review trends to inform program implementation and management

+ Organize and manage record-keeping procedures and systems

+ Identify and assess potential risks related to international engagements using Visual Compliance, internal data and open source tools and resources

+ Develop and maintain research security and export control websites

+ Assist in the creation and maintenance of informational resources and tools such, decision trees and checklists to help faculty and staff independently and efficiently assess risk

+ Provide outreach, information and education and serve as a resource to faculty and staff on research security and export control related matters.

+ Incorporate and demonstrate the mission, vision, and values of Stanford University in behaviors, practices, and decisions.

**MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:**

**Education & Experience:**

Bachelor’s degree and five years of relevant experience, or combination of education and relevant experience.

**Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:**

+ Knowledge or rules and regulations governing export control compliance and research security requirements and how they apply in a university setting

+ Acts with integrity exercises sound judgment when making decisions

+ Ability to interpret and apply complex rules, regulations, and policies

+ Ability to exercise discretion and maintain confidentiality of sensitive information

+ Extremely detail oriented, able to work well independently and knows when to escalate or seek assistance.

+ Strong organizational skills and the ability to prioritize a variety of tasks and demands

**PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:**

+ Frequently sitting, grasping lightly, use fine manipulation and a computer (keyboard, mouse, monitor).

+ Rarely lift, carry, push, and pull objects that weigh up to 10 pounds.

The expected pay range for this position is $95,000 to $141,000 per annum.
