CDL Class A Dump Truck Driver

Founded in 1996, CMES, Inc. is a rapidly growing, privately held Georgia-based civil construction company. We are seeking to add a Dump Truck Driver to our team to support our continued rapid growth within the heavy highway, roadside construction industry. This role will initially be placed at one of our projects located in the Metro Atlanta and/or surrounding areas. Our CMES, Inc. office is located in Norcross, Georgia.
Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skills, and/or abilities necessary to meet the minimum job requirements of this position. Prepares, receives and provides appropriate documentation for the delivery or pick up of oversized equipment to ensure timely service.
Requires loading, securing and unloading of construction equipment and or other cargo.
Requires determining gross load weight, requesting permits when required, and determining route based on road restrictions and load weight.
Maintains telephone contact with project manager and fleet department to receive delivery or pick up instructions or to receive notice of changes in schedule.
Maintains logs of travel and cargo according to federal and state regulations.
Perform light/routine maintenance (fueling, greasing, repairing, cleaning) and upkeep of truck, notify shop when more extensive repairs/maintenance are required.
Recognize and report any abnormal equipment operating conditions
Recognize and report any unsafe working conditions
Position will consistently inspect loads for appearance defects, incorrect documentation, or variances in tonnage counts and will report any discrepancies to their immediate supervisor without delay
Haul loads to and from customer sites customer orders as instructed
Ensures that truck is loaded with work specified, each job detail is properly accounted for, and that loads are secured properly to allow for quickest unloading.
Completes documentation of manifests, DOT regulations, Timesheets, Work Orders, etc. as required on a daily basis.
Other duties as required.
Required Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
Must have valid active CDL.
Must have 3 or more years of experience in driving dump trucks.
Must be able to follow maps and written instructions to locate customer’s premises.
Experience helpful in maintaining proper records and files.
Professional demeanor with co-workers, visitors, clients, and vendors.
Shows initiative and the desire to grow professionally.
Ability to complete tasks accurately with minimal supervision and meet strict deadlines.
Flexibility to work weekends and outside of normal business hours (if required).
Must be reliable and extremely trustworthy.
Strong commitment to team members.
EDUCATION
Required: High school diploma or equivalent
LICENSING/REGISTRATION/CERTIFICATION
Required: DOT Medical Card
Required: Valid Drivers License Required: Valid active Class A CDL
EXPERIENCE
Required: 3 or more years’ experience as a Driver of an equivalent construction/trade related operation. Preferred: Has equipment moving experience.

This position requires manual dexterity and strength in arms and feet to manipulate equipment controls, tools and other items used to make adjustments and / or minor maintenance. Will use hands, arms, back and shoulders in handling, installing, positioning, and moving items, and manipulating other objects. Employee could be in a standing, bending, kneeling or sitting position for long periods of time. Employee will sit while driving, often for extended periods of time. Must be able to climb stairs/ steps and to use handrails to enter and exit the truck’s cab and also enter and exit the equipment being loaded and unloaded. This position will require the ability to operate a manual transmission and clutch in both the lowboy truck and any equipment being loaded or unloaded. The position requires considerable bending, twisting, reaching, pushing and pulling, for example, while handling heavy steel chains to secure and unsecure equipment to the truck bed. Other tasks can require stooping, bending, squatting, stretching, driving, sitting, shifting gears. The employee will be regularly required to sit, talk and/or hear. The employee is required to use hands to type and write.

The noise level in the work environment may range from moderate to loud. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to work near moving and mechanical parts and equipment. Employee will be exposed to dust and fumes from cleaners, gasoline, diesel and exhaust. Employee will work outdoors, and will be exposed to the weather, including extremes in heat and cold and rain.
