LINK’s goal is to mitigate the effect of systemic and structural forces impeding Black students by improving and increasing educational opportunities and access. By equipping our Scholars with the knowledge, skills, resources, and social equity that further college completion and career placement, LINK is increasing the economic mobility and stability of Black students and cultivating a diverse leadership pipeline for our city.
Since 1966, we have successfully supported over 2,500 low- to moderate-income students. In the 2023-2024 academic year, we will serve 300+ middle and high schoolers. Our Scholars represent more than 60 Chicagoland neighborhoods, with a focus on supporting ten South and West Side communities: Auburn Gresham, Austin, Bronzeville, Englewood, Garfield Park, Greater Grand Crossing, North Lawndale, Roseland, South Shore, and Washington Park.

Position Summary
The Director, Finance and Operations (DFO), reporting to the President &CEO, is an integral member of the leadership team who will provide leadership for the following areas: finance, operations, human resources, administration, and IT. The DFO will ensure the successful and efficient day-to-day operations of LINK Unlimited. We seek a highly skilled, responsible, and detail-oriented team member who can work both independently and collaboratively in a vision driven and growing organization. Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
Supervisory Responsibilities:
Finance & Operations Associate
Financial Administration
Through the use of QuickBooks, oversee and/or perform accounting, clerical, and analytical tasks related to all matters of Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable, such as invoices, pledges, grant awards, and reimbursements owed.
Complete bank reconciliations and provide monthly and quarterly financial statements.
Analyze cash flow, cost controls, and expenses to guide the organization.
Manage and process the semi-monthly payroll process and staff reimbursable expenses.
In conjunction with the President & CEO, assist in the annual organizational budgeting and planning process.
In conjunction with the President & CEO, coordinate the annual audit and 990 processes. Work closely with the auditor to ensure timely audit completion.
Work closely with the Development team in the administration of grants, including preparing budgets, monitoring spending, providing financial information for grant applications, reports, and/or audits.
Ensure reconciliation of donation entries between QuickBooks and Salesforce on monthly basis.
Maintain organized files of documents to support financial authorizations, auditing requirements, and backup needs.
In conjunction with the President & CEO, ensure that all necessary business policies and accounting practices are updated and implemented.
Other financial duties as assigned.
Operations/Human Resources
Work closely with the HR Consultant(s)/Outsourced vendors to:
Manage the Employee Benefits program.
Lead the new hire process and organizational onboarding process:
Submitting background checks
Provide new hires with and ensure the completion of HR paperwork
Oversee process to properly and efficiently track staff PTO.
Coordinate employee recognition activities.
Monitor relevant labor laws/regulations to ensure organizational compliance, including appropriate postings and employee notifications.
Coordinate annual insurance renewal/open enrollment process, worker’s compensation, etc.
Maintain HR Personnel files.
Close out files for exiting employees.
Further develop LINK Unlimited Scholars human resources and administration, enhancing professional development, compensation and benefits, performance evaluation, training, and recruiting.
Administrative/Office Management
Oversee the staffing & responsibilities of general duties such as welcoming visitors, answering phones, managing mail and packages, etc.
Maintain a clean and organized office environment.
Oversee supply inventory and ordering process.
Fulfill staff supply requests.
Maintain office equipment (copiers, printers, phones, etc.).
Oversee administrative functions as well as facility maintenance to ensure efficient and consistent operations.
Other duties as assigned.
Information Technology (IT)
Technology savvy with experience selecting and overseeing software installation and managing relationships with software vendors.
Work with outsourced vendor to manage organization’s overall IT needs.
Interact with computer and phone vendors for office-related troubleshooting.

Work Schedule
Full-Time, Monday through Friday, 9:00am-5:00pm, but requires 40-50 hours per week. Hybrid schedule: remotely twice a week (Mondays & Fridays) and in-office Tuesday through Thursday. Must also have some flexibility to on occasion work a slightly later schedule to support special events.
Compensation
Salary range $75k-$85k; to be determined based on experience and skills. Full-time employees are eligible for health, dental, and vision insurance, Retirement, 10 PTO days in first year, 11 Holidays, and a holiday shut down from Christmas Eve through New-Year’s day.
Requirements
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in business, finance, accounting, non-profit management or related field REQUIRED.
A minimum of 5 years of Fiscal Administration and Operations experience or responsibilities similar to this role is REQUIRED.
A minimum of 3 years of supervisory/management experience where responsibilities included team hiring, performance reviews, and termination (not including interns) is REQUIRED.
Experience in managing financial data, financial reporting, audit coordination, and oversight of human resources.
Knowledge of Generally Accepted Accounting Principles (GAAP) and automated reporting software.
Ability to translate financial concepts to effectively collaborate with programmatic and fundraising staff.
Experience in supporting grants management specifically around developing custom budgets and financial narrative reports.
Excellent time management, organizational, writing, and communication skills.
Advanced computer skills, including QuickBooks, Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel and Word, Google Suite, etc.
Must be highly detail-oriented.
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Solution focused.
Must be able to prioritize and independently manage projects from implementation through completion; able to multi-task and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
Excellent communication and relationship-building skills with an ability to work with a variety of internal and external stakeholders.
Experience in working in a non-profit setting is desirable.
