JOB SUMMARY
The School of Technology and Innovation invites applications for a full-time, tenure track assistant professor faculty position (a nine-month academic year appointment). The department is located in a state-of-the-art teaching and research facility, the Ballston Center, in the heart of one of Arlington VA’s business districts and close to many technology, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence organizations. including government agencies. You will join a collaborative and diverse team of professors and students focused on meeting the workforce needs of our increasingly digital ecosystem. Undergraduate programs include computer science. cybersecurity, artificial intelligence, cloud computing, and information technology. Master’s programs include cybersecurity, information technology, technology management, and emerging technology as well as an extensive array of certificates, including data analysis and privacy and data security. Marymount also offers a rigorous DSc in Cybersecurity. Although some teaching assignments may be online, our professors are generally expected to have a continuing presence on campus, supporting our more than 500 students in the programs listed above.
MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
Teach a 3/3 course load each year at the undergraduate and/or graduate levels.
Be active in academic research in the computer science/engineering, cybersecurity, data science, artificial intelligence and/or related fields in collaboration with other faculty members and doctoral students.
Engage in the school’s growing grant and contract portfolio, including research, student scholarships and workforce development, with government and commercial clients
Serve as a mentor/advisor for students in the various programs, using your academic and work experience to prepare and guide students into a worthwhile technology career in government, academia, or industry.
Be engaged in a variety of enrollment and promotion activities, professional events, and career development functions for the school.
Participate in the university community, attending all required meetings such as Faculty Council, school meetings, department meetings, and university events such as convocation, as well as engaging in the university’s professional development activities.
Work with the school director and other faculty members to further develop our curriculum materials to meet the needs of the changing technology workforce.
Have a presence on campus and maintain office hours to support students in the programs.
OTHER DUTIES AND ASSIGNMENTS
Assuming professional and educational responsibilities as requested by the College Dean or the School Director.
Engaging in the technology field including working with the university community, other research institutions, and professional organizations.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Education
Doctorate in computer science, computer engineering, cybersecurity, mathematics, statistics, information technology or related field, or one year from completion.
Research in one or more of the technology disciplines covered by our programs
Experience
Hands-on teaching with a variety of technology tools.
Preference for professional experience in one or more of the fields covered by our programs, either as a consultant, employee, or principal investigator on a grant.
