Job Summary & Responsibilities

Software Applications Engineer III, Redwood City, CA- Perform mobile application development using Android Studio or XCode. Use standard mobile development tools, libraries and SDK’s like Sweet Bluetooth framework for establishing Bluetooth connectivity. Use Rx Java/Rx Kotlin to observe and subscribe to events, Realm Database for persistent data storage, Android instrumentation and Junit for unit testing and code coverage. Implement firebase for analytics and crash reporting, datadog and timber for logging information, retrofit for networking, circle CI for continuous integration, bitbucket for code repository. Understand and review documentation for different hardware systems like Implantable Pulse Generator, Trial, and Mock Stimulator. Based on business and development needs, update software setup and development tools including firmware on hardware, in-house programmer software, mobile application development environment etc. Create appropriate branches to work on features/bugs from existing repositories. Develop resilient code which adheres to best coding practices helping product to be stable for intended customers.  Leverage design patterns such as coordinator Pattern, MVVM etc. for developing modular, robust, scalable, and reusable code. Follow test driven development approach to write and execute unit, instrumentation tests to check code quality, code coverage to ensure no bugs introduced during development. Participate in peer code reviews, regular backlog grooming sessions, daily standups, sprint ceremonies to meet project deliverables on schedule. Understand existing code logic and refactoring code wherever required to conform to business needs. Ensure code implementation focuses on reuse of existing classes, functions, interfaces, UI components. Document and discuss introduction of new classes, functions, UI components and specially design changes in application flow. Analyze algorithms for fetching, parsing, storing, presenting, and updating data and provide inputs to improve. Collaborate with cross functional teams to understand requirements, architecture design to be implemented for mobile application. Use standard tools like Figma, Confluence, Jama, Arena for documentation towards UI/UX, architecture design, Business requirements etc. Use Jira for project tracking, bugs, stories, and features being worked on for sprint reviews. Ensure mobile applications development is compliant with best development practices as per Apple and Google guidelines for app store and play store release.  Help publish mobile apps using firebase/TestFlight for app distribution to internal test team and external customers.

Role Requirements

Requires Master’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, or related field plus 2 years of relevant experience as a software developer or mobile application developer or Bachelors in Computer Science, Information Technology, Electronics Engineering, or related field with 4 years of relevant experience as a software developer or mobile application developer.

Hybrid work is permitted per employer’s discretion.

Skills and Knowledge

Must possess 2 years of experience with:

-Native Mobile Application development with the following technologies: Java programming, Object Oriented Programming, Android Kotlin development, Realm DB, BLE, Rx Java, Rx Kotlin, Design patterns, coordinator Pattern, MVVM, React native, Push notifications, and Caching libraries.

-Publishing mobile apps using Firebase, and TestFlight
