Director, Equipment and Facilities Maintenance

Director, Equipment and Facilities Maintenance General Statement of Duties This position is responsible for the overall operations, maintenance, construction, renewal, and continuous stewardship of the Village’s facilities and equipment. Manages Village facilities, equipment maintenance personnel, and projects in a multi-facilities environment. Serves as an integral member of the Village’s management team and reports to the Village Manager and the Assistant Village Manager.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties/responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to the following:

Supervises, coordinates and administers all management, maintenance and security of Village-owned vehicles, equipment, and properties, which includes but is not limited to Village Hall, Fire Stations, and Public Works buildings.

Manages the development and implementation of the department’s vision, goals, objectives, policies and priorities ensuring the department’s operations reflect recognized best practices.

Responsible for the supervision, development, mentoring and evaluation of department personnel, oversees discipline and termination procedures and supports in the administration of any labor contracts governing departmental employees.

Coordinates & communicates with the Village Manager on project implementation & progress.

Oversees all facility repairs, maintenance, and service contracts including but not limited to contractors, security, garbage collection, HVAC, pest control, snow removal and landscaping to ensure work is being completed to acceptable standards.

Manages projects, analyzes budgets and assumes responsibility for the appropriate use of funds assigned to the Facilities and Equipment Management department.

Manages inventory of all facilities; allocates storage spaces and enforces standards for space utilization.

Oversees the construction of a new combined Public Works and 911 Dispatch Center facility.

Partners with the IT Director to utilize reporting software to maximize its full potential.

Collaborates with the Village Manager and other department heads in negotiating and implementing collective bargaining agreements.

Mitigates risk and oversees safety policies, procedures and training.

Required Skills/Abilities

Excellent management, organizational, analytical, communication, and interpersonal skills and adherence to the Village’s high professional and ethical standards.

Ability to work independently, use self-initiated follow-up to meet deadlines, and proven ability to successfully manage multiple projects concurrently.

Well-organized, self-motivated, goal-oriented, and flexible.

Ability to establish and maintain effective work relationships with employees, elected officials, advisory bodies, consultants, community and professional organizations, media, and the public.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline.

Ten (10) years of recent applicable facilities and/or equipment management experience, with at least 3 years in a management and leadership role.

Experience negotiating and working with external service providers, establishing contracts, contract administration, payments, and scheduling.

Experience with budget preparation and monitoring.

Experience or knowledge in negotiation and administration of labor contracts.

Experience in a municipal or government environment.

Experience with and understanding of safety laws, regulations and guidelines (i.e., OSHA, NFPA, EPA)

Additional Information

Compensation : $125,000 base salary and excellent benefits.
