Job Description:

Summary:

The Research Assistant will assist in the successful completion of two NIH-funded research projects examining neuropsychiatric symptoms and emotional systems in neurodegenerative disease: “Using RDoC Negative and Positive Valence Paradigms to Investigate the Mechanisms of Neuropsychiatric Symptoms in Alzheimer's Disease and Related Dementias (PAVES)”, and “Neuroanatomical associations with the factor structure underlying neuropsychiatric symptoms in Alzheimer's disease (NAPS)”. The duties of the position include participant recruitment and scheduling, data collection, and data entry and management.

Dr. Edward Huey's lab research has focused on patients with frontal lobe disorders, including patients with frontotemporal lobar degeneration (FTLD) and related disorders such as corticobasal syndrome and ALS, and brain injury. The lab studies the genetics of FTLD and is interested in the range of behavioral and emotional symptoms associated with mutations that cause FTLD. The lab also uses imaging in patients with frontal lobe disorders to explore the role of the frontal lobes in behavior and emotion, and the development of psychiatric disorders including mood disorders, PTSD, and OCD. A third interest is in the role of the dopamine system in the pathogenesis and treatment of the symptoms of FTLD.

This is a fixed term position with a current end date of one year from the date of hire, which may be extended based upon availability of funding.

Job Qualifications:

Education and Experience

+ Required: Bachelor’s degree in Neuroscience, Psychology, or a related field

+ Required: 1-2 years related research experience

+ Prior experience in clinical research, or prior experience in interacting with patients with neurodegenerative illness is a plus

+ Or an equivalent combination of education and experience

Job Competencies

+ Empathy and comfort in interacting with patients and families with neurodegenerative illness

+ Interest in learning about cognitive impairment and dementia

+ Ability to work well with a multi-disciplinary team

+ Outstanding time management and multi-tasking skills
