MANAGEMENT

Washington

Job Description Job Description Managers, assistant managers and head guards, please read carefully.  The duties listed and expounded upon below are yours and will play a key role in having a successful season.  These duties are in addition to those listed in the Midwest Pool Management Lifeguard Job Descriptions.

*All applicants MUST be 15 years or older by the date of their lifeguard certification class*

Safety. As a member of the management team at one of our facilities, you are a role model when it comes to safety.  In both your attitude and the way the facility is run, our staff looks to you for guidance.  Therefore, it is important that you abide by the highest safety standard in everything you do.  This includes but is not limited to:

Chemical adjusting & storage

Fill out daily checklists

Pump & filter room responsibilities

Requiring your staff & yourself to participate in inservice training as required by StarGuard Training Program

Recognizing & taking appropriate steps necessary to rectify an unsafe or potentially dangerous area or situation

Being proactive in your attitude

Abiding by facility rules & making sure the staff does themselves as well as enforces it with the patrons.

Communication. As a management member, you will be key in communication between staff, the field supervisors and the MPM office as well as the Client.  There will be meetings set up over the summer with the Client that you will attend; however, this should not be the only time you speak with them.  It is important that while you establish an open communication line with employees you handle all conversation professionally and fairly.  A great way to make yourself available to the guards is to make yourself visible and accessible.  While we understand managers have many duties throughout the day, they should never be holed up in the office or pump room.  By walking the deck and/or completing stand audits on the guards, you make yourself visible, ensure that the staff is doing their job and make yourself available.  Having clear communication throughout the summer on all levels is vital in producing a successful summer.

Professionalism . As a manager, you should consistently be the epitome of professionalism in both appearance and attitude.  Just as our staff, you are required to be in full uniform at all times. You will not be able to enforce the lifeguards to be in uniform if you are not yourself.  Your uniform should consist of:

-  Whistle                                                       -  Fanny Pack

-  Manager t-shirt or polo                              -  Khakis or red, black or gray shorts

-  Swim suit or trunks                                    -  Visor

-  Sunglasses                                                -  Sunscreen

As a manager, you will deal with many different types of situations.  It is important that you remain calm, helpful and assertive but know when to ask for assistance.

Cleanliness is a never-ending task. Between the cleanliness of the pool(s) themselves, the filter, storage and guard rooms along with the furniture, trashcans, concession and deck areas and bathrooms, there is always something that needs to be cleaned.  Being a manager, it is one of your responsibilities to make sure the facility is not only picked up but clean .  This will entail:

Checking chemicals at least every 2 hours

Picking up trash off deck & emptying trash cans.

Washing trash cans & deck furniture

Thorough cleaning of bathrooms daily as well as constant spot cleanings

Backwashing, vacuuming & cleaning the hair/lint pot

Power-washing the deck

Keeping guard office & storage areas organized

For several of the above tasks, it is important that the necessary supplies are on hand.  It is the managements responsibility to pick up all the necessary supplies (reagents, bathhouse, first aid) each pay day and make sure to grab enough stock to last a two-week period.

Scheduling. One of the many responsibilities will be making the schedule for the facility.  It is required that the schedule be posted by the 20th of the month prior to the start date.  All programming, as well as open swim hours and staff inservice must be on the schedule.  At larger facilities, a separate manager/headguard schedule is required.

At many of our facilities some of the staff is made up of individuals who are under the age of 16.  Following are some specific and mandatory guidelines that need to be taken into account when making a schedule:

*All applicants MUST be 15 years or older by the date of their lifeguard certification class*
