Job Description Summary:
The Information Services & Technology group is looking for a Senior Data Engineer to join the Data & Analytics team. The role will participate in the design, delivery, support and maintenance of end to end data services, pipelines including data mart and data products. This role will forge strong relationships with stakeholders to lead, inform & resolve complex business challenges, continuously evaluate cutting edge data engineering solutions, influence the data & analytics roadmap and drive end-to-end implementation.

The Senior Data Engineer will help translate business needs into data solutions that will be used to make critical strategic and real-time decisions. This person will be responsible for designing, building, and maintaining data pipelines using technologies such as Fivetran, Talend and Python into our Snowflake / AWS Services and transforming the data using tools like dbt. This person will also be responsible for ensuring data quality, security and performance of the data pipelines.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Understand business requirements, business processes and data sources.
Actively participate/interact with users and business analysts to understand requirements of the data need and reports.
Design and develop source to target mapping to support data transformation process.
Design highly scalable ETL processes and data transformations
Design and develop SQL views, procedures and functions, help develop reporting data mart.
Serve as a subject matter expert in Structured Query Language (SQL)
Perform complex data analysis with a large volume of data.
Collaborate with business analysts to translate data requirements into logical data models, develop ETL/data integration for data warehouse and data marts.
Responsible for establishing industry standard and best practices for data engineering and build reusable data engineering assets and frameworks
Responsible for the integrity and quality of data stored in data warehouses, data marts and business intelligence applications.
Responsible for creating design specification, technical documentation, data mapping and other training documents as needed.
Responsible for preparing documents that facilitate better understanding across all Natera systems and Data Warehouse such as data flow diagrams, data models, data lineages and other illustrations.
QUALIFICATIONS:
BS degree in computer science, comparable program, or equivalent experience
10+ years of work experience including hands-on technical experience with SQL, Python, database design and ETL processes
Minimum 5+ years of experience focusing on data warehouse or data lake or lake house implementation with cloud platforms such as Snowflake or Redshift or similar.
Experience with data modeling, architecture, database schema design and data warehouse applications ( Star/Snowflake Schema, OLAP , Data Vault modeling etc.)
Experience with ETL or EL & T using Talend, dbt or similar platform.
Experience on building modern data pipelines - Ingestion, Profiling, Integration, Aggregation, Logging, Orchestrations, DAG, etc.
Experience working with cloud based data warehousing platforms like AWS S3, Athena, Glue, Lamba with GitRepo.
Experience handling sem-structured (JSON, Key Value pair) and unstructured data formats would be an advantage.
Knowledge or experience working with data cataloging tools such as Collibra, Atlan or Alation.
Knowledge of data visualization tools like Power BI, Qlik Sense, Tableau or similar
Proven success in communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements, describe data modeling decisions and data engineering strategy
Knowledge of software engineering best practices across the development lifecycle, including agile methodologies, coding standards, code reviews, source management, build processes, testing, and operations
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:
Ability to apply analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to understand complex data structures.
Nice to have AWS or other cloud infrastructure experience
Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
Openness to new ideas, programming, and design paradigms
Healthcare IT experience is a plus
Experience working in regulated environments is a plus
The pay range is listed and actual compensation packages are based on a wide array of factors unique to each candidate, including but not limited to skill set, years & depth of experience, certifications and specific office location.
